Which 11 players would you select in Newcastle team v Liverpool? Vote now
Which 11 players would you pick in the Newcastle team v Liverpool on Saturday afternoon?
We have put together a list of the 20 players who could potentially be selected for this game.
A tricky visit to Anfield lying ahead with it being 25 years since Newcastle won here in the Premier League and Liverpool having won their last 13 PL games home and away, plus only one PL defeat (at Man City) in their last 43 games.
The last thing Steve Bruce and Newcastle needed was another injury but the head coach has revealed Sean Longstaff has been ruled out of Saturday.
When talking about the injury/fitness situation on Friday the NUFC head coach said:
“Unfortunately Sean Longstaff turned an ankle in training so won’t be in contention for Saturday. It’s one of those freak injuries. We won’t know how severe it is for a couple of days.”
“Matt Ritchie’s been quite remarkable in his recovery – he’s shocked us all. We weren’t expecting to see him for a couple of months, but with the way he’s trained yesterday and the day before – as long as there’s no reaction – I don’t think he’s too far away.
“It’s still a bit early for Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin, but they’ve made big progress this week. Andy’s away to see a specialist this afternoon. Touch wood, he’s delighted with how it’s gone so far. With Allan, we’re erring on the side of caution.”
So as well as Lejuene, the likes of Carroll, ASM, Gayle, Ritchie and Sean Longstaff won’t be involved.
There have been claims that Yedlin could be close to a return and so we have included him in the list below, although even if he is in Saturday’s squad there is surely no chance of being thrown straight into the starting eleven.
Also, with Sean Longstaff ruled out, we have included his 19 year old brother Matty who impressed in pre-season.
