What Graham Potter had to say at his Brighton press conference ahead of facing Newcastle United

Graham Potter has been at Brighton four months now.

Chris Hughton dismissed on 13 May 2019 after just avoiding relegation, Potter appointed a week later.

Graham Potter experienced great success with Swedish side Ostersund between 2010 and 2018.

Then after impressing with both results and his style of football at Swansea last season, he has been given his chance in the Premier League.

Starting the season with a win, two draws and two defeats, Brighton currently sit a point ahead of Newcastle United.

On Thursday afternoon Graham Potter met the media ahead of Saturday’s game at St James Park.

Graham Potter speaking at his pre-Newcastle press conference:

Steve Bruce has his teams well organised and competitive with quality.

“I think he’ll have an impact at Newcastle too, he’s a talented manager with a lot of experience.

“Points are the name of the game, we’ve done some things well and some not so much.

“Last week was a hard game (leading 1-0 until Burnley got an equaliser with their first shot on target in added time) against a tough side.

“I thought we managed it well though and we were disappointed not to win.

“We’ve tried to be flexible and the boys are very open-minded.

“We’ve had to make changes for a number of factors, but we have players who are ready to come in and help the side.

“The next game is always the most important for us.

“You have to do your best every time you step onto the field, we know every match is tough.

“It’s as you were on the injury front, the likes of Leandro Trossard are making good progress.

“Martin Montoya was ill last week, but he’s recovered now.”

The official Brighton site explaining on the injury/fitness front: ‘Potter confirmed Martin Montoya is available for selection after missing last weekend’s game through illness, but Leandro Trossard, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Leon Balogun will miss out due to injuries.’
