Steve Bruce has taken his pre-Leicester press conference.

The NUFC head coach meeting journalists early Friday morning before training.

Only the seventh Premier League game of the season but it is looking a massive match for the two clubs currently filling 3rd and 17th places.

As usual, injuries and fitness dominated much of the talk, plus the ‘imminent’ takeover…

Sean Longstaff, Allan Saint-Maximin, Andy Carroll, DeAndre Yedlin are all available for the squad on Sunday.

However, Jonjo Shelvey has now got a hamstring injury.

As for Matt Ritchie, he is still not ready to return, as is the case of course with Florian Lejeune and Dwight Gayle.

Meanwhile, after scoring only four in six PL games so far, Steve Bruce is hoping for more.

Steve Bruce talking at his pre-Brighton press conference:

Last week against Brighton:

“We didn’t play well enough with or without the ball.

“It always concerns you when you don’t play well enough…

“If we’re going to make a fist of it this year, we’re going to have to be better than we were last week.”

Goals:

“We certainly have to be better in terms of goals – we understand that.

“Let’s hope that we can be with the players we’ve got coming back.”

Leicester City:

“They’re a good side and they’ve evolved into a very, very good side over the years.

“We know if we’re going to get something we’ll have to be at our best.”

Andy Carroll:

“We all know what he can do as a footballer – the big thing, of course, is fitness levels.

He’s trained all week and, touch wood, there’s not been any problems.”

Jonjo Shelvey:

“The only one that really isn’t making it is Shelvey, who has got a hamstring (injury)… He’ll be two weeks.”

Newcastle United takeover claims:

“It is news to me.

“Not something I can really comment on.

“I have not heard anything.

“You have to get used to it.

“It’s happened three or four times to me before. You get used to it.

“This club always has speculation round it and it has never happened.

“I honestly didn’t know anything (about a potential takeover) until I was told this morning when I walked through the door.

“You are asking the wrong person if there’s anything in it.

“All that I’m focused on is Sunday.”
