Steve Bruce gives injury/fitness update for Leicester: Three ‘OK’, one surprise injury and one ‘close’
Steve Bruce has been talking ahead of the game on Sunday.
The Head Coach meeting media on Friday morning.
Talking to BBC Newcastle, Steve Bruce has given fitness/injury updates on five players.
It is pretty much almost all good news.
The Head Coach confirming that Sean Longstaff is now available, with his ankle injury behind him now.
As for Carroll and Saint-Maximin, Steve Bruce says they are ‘OK’ for Sunday.
I take that to mean that Andy Carroll will once again be available on the bench if needed for a late run out BUT hopefully for Allan Saint-Maximin, he will now be able to start against Leicester.
As for DeAndre Yedlin, Bruce says the defender is ‘close to where we can consider him’, so realistically it sounds like we are looking at Man Utd at home next Sunday, or even Chelsea after the break, when he can be considered. Although I suppose a small chance he might make the bench on Sunday.
The one surprise is that Jonjo Shelvey is now ruled out with a hamstring injury according to Steve Bruce.
Conspiracy theorists will no doubt wonder if this is a convenient injury considering Shelvey was so poor in recent games and bound to be dropped with Longstaff coming back, or indeed, failing that – Ki to play instead.
Steve Bruce talking to BBC Newcastle:
“It (the injury) was a pretty straightforward one: he turned his ankle over after the ball struck him. He’s OK.”
Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin:
“Saint-Maximin and Carroll are OK.”
“Yedlin’s OK – he’s been out, quietly, for the best part of five months.
“He’s trained now for the past couple of weeks and looks like his fitness is close to where we can consider him.”
‘Jonjo Shelvey is OUT of Newcastle’s match against Leicester with a hamstring injury.’
