Steve Bruce said on Friday that one day this season he would move to a back four.

Well that day has arrived.

When the Newcastle team v Leicester was unveiled at 3.30pm, there were three changes.

Willems, Manquillo and Shelvey dropping out, with Krafth, Muto and Sean Longstaff coming in.

Newcastle fans wondering how these changes would fit into a team formation.

Shortly before kick-off, Steve Bruce’s thinking has been explained by the official club website.

Dubravka will play behind a back four of Krafth, Schar, Lascelles and Dummett.

Longstaff and Hayden in central midfield.

Then ‘Christian Atsu and Miguel Almirón give the Magpies some width on the flanks’, presumably Almiron out of position on the right.

Then ‘Muto and Joelinton will spearhead the visitors’ attack’, a front two for Newcastle.

Steve Bruce has been repeatedly ridiculed for constantly changing tactics and confusing the players.

Here’s hoping he has now hit on one that they are totally onboard with and that it works…

Newcastle United official site:

Yoshinori Muto has been handed his first start of the season in Newcastle United’s Premier League clash at Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

United head to the King Power Stadium (4:30pm kick-off) looking for a second away win of the campaign, and Japanese frontman Muto has been called upon by head coach Steve Bruce to partner Joelinton up front against the Foxes.

It is one of three changes made by Bruce following last weekend’s draw with Brighton, with Emil Krafth coming in for Javier Manquillo at right back and Sean Longstaff replacing Jonjo Shelvey, while Jetro Willems is not in the squad.

Martin Dúbravka starts in goal, with Krafth, Fabian Schär, captain Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett forming a back four.

, with Longstaff returning from injury to partner Isaac Hayden in the middle of the park.

And Muto and Joelinton will spearhead the visitors’ attack against Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes.

Karl Darlow is on the bench along with Manquillo, Federico Fernández and DeAndre Yedlin.

Further forward, Ki Sung-yueng, Allan Saint-Maximin and Andy Carroll are also named among the substitutes.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka; Emil Krafth, Fabian Schär, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett; Christian Atsu, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almirón; Yoshinori Muto, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, DeAndre Yedlin, Federico Fernández, Ki Sung-yueng, Allan Saint-Maximin, Andy Carroll.
