Sky Sports rank Newcastle United star in new list of top in-form Premier League players
The new Sky Sports Power Rankings have been published.
The Power Rankings methodology reflects a player’s performance over the last five Premier League matchdays by awarding points to players for 32 different stats.
A heavier weighting is given to the most recent match in descending order to the fifth last one, with the intention of showing who is most in form.
After the weekend matches, which included Newcastle’s Saturday afternoon/night draw with Brighton, the rankings have now been updated.
The rankings this week, are based on (working backwards):
Newcastle 0 Brighton 0
Liverpool 3 Liverpool 1
Newcastle 1 Watford 1
Tottenham 0 Newcastle 1
Norwich 3 Newcastle 1
The latest Power Rankings as published by Sky Sports:
Newcastle United have only one player in the top 50 with Fabian Schar in 46th place, especially good considering how poor the team have been overall.
Schar of course was the best of Newcastle’s starting eleven on Saturday, an incredible clearance off the line ensuring a clean sheet and rescuing a point.
At Liverpool he did his best to stem the attacking flow, whilst he was also Newcastle’s best player by far against Watford and rescued a point with an ambitious run into the box and excellent finish on the volley with his weaker foot.
The previous game saw Fabian Schar once again in a starring role, playing a key part in the clean sheet and win over Tottenham.
When picking the Swiss defender in his Premier League team of the week after the Brighton game, Garth Crooks pointed out that in the last 44 Premier League games, Newcastle have won only once when Schar hasn’t started. The records showing 12 wins in 28 PL games when the defender has started, only one in 16 when not in the starting eleven.
