The results of the Newcastle v Brighton player ratings by fans.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

A game that was billed as a must-win by some for Newcastle United, a potential relegation six-pointer possibly, even at this early stage of the season.

A match that ended up as one where NUFC  were lucky to walk away anything.

When somebody who played only 17 minutes gets man of the match, it says everything. Allan Saint-Maximin (6.9) sparking Newcastle into some kind of life when introduced in the 73rd minute.

As for the starters, only two of them came out of it with any real credit.

Fabian Schar (6.6) producing an outstanding clearance to ‘win’ a point, whilst Martin Dubravka (6.4) could do no more than keep a clean sheet.

Of the rest, only three other scored 5.0 or better and little surprise that they were also defenders.

Paul Dummett (5.3) the best of the trio, then Jamaal Lascelles (5.1) and Javier Manquillo (5.0) who at least battled away.

As for the very weakest performance, Jonjo Shelvey (2.7) was the stand out, many fans questioning whether he even gave it 100% effort.

The five other starters scored only 4. something.

Jetro Willems (4.0) and Joelinton (4.0) rated next weakest after Shelvey.

Miguel Almiron (4.2) and Christian Atsu (4.2) struggled to influence the game, whilst Isaac Hayden (4.7) wasn’t exactly helped by playing alongside Jonjo Shelvey.

Off the bench, at least Ki (4.8) and Carroll (5.3) offered a bit more than who they replaced.
