Anybody who doubts just how disastrous things are at Manchester United (who have just released more up to date figures, as per the table), in terms of money laid out compared to return, just needs to see how they compare to the likes of Man City and Liverpool.

As you can see, Newcastle United were 12th highest in this list with an average player weekly pay of £49,675.
