New Premier League relegation odds after Newcastle United hammered by Leicester
Interesting to see how the Premier League relegation odds are looking as Newcastle now head into October.
Before the season started, the bookies made Newcastle United a comfortable mid-table finisher this time.
However, after seven games, their verdict has very much changed.
A backs to the wall win at Spurs and two fortunate home draws against Brighton and Watford have given five points.
However, defeats to Arsenal, Norwich and Liverpool left Newcastle in the relegation zone ahead of this weekend gone.
A disastrous 5-0 defeat followed at Leicester, ensuring Newcastle are second bottom heading into October.
This is how the Premier League table looks on Monday, with Man Utd v Arsenal tonight to round off this set of PL fixtures:
The most/only positive thing for Newcastle is just how many clubs are seen as in danger of going down, with six clubs (see below) 9/4 or less to be relegated, then you have Burnley 4/1.
However, the fact remains that Newcastle United are now the clear odds-on 10/11 favourite to go down, followed by Sheffield United (11/8).
In basic terms, the bookies now think there is more chance of Newcastle going down than staying up.
With Man Utd home and Chelsea away, then Wolves home and West Ham away, things are looking tough for an NUFC team who have so little goal threat (no team has scored less than Newcastle’s four goals and Bruce’s side haven’t scored in over four and a half hours of football) and are conceding plenty (only Norwich and Watford have conceded more than Newcastle’s 13).
The current Premier League relegation odds from BetVictor:
10/11 Newcastle United
11/8 Sheffield Utd
11/8 Aston Villa
6/4 Norwich
17/10 Watford
9/4 Brighton
4/1 Burnley
9/2 Crystal Palace
5/1 Southampton
9/1 Bournemouth
16/1 Wolves
16/1 Everton
20/1 West Ham
200/1 Leicester
200/1 Man Utd
200/1 Chelsea
