Martin Dubravka reacts with quality display as Miguel Almiron set to bring curtain down in Jordan
Martin Dubravka was back to his very best.
Having conceded four goals on Friday night for only the second time in the past four years in a competitive match, the Newcastle keeper and his Slovakian teammates were up against Group E leaders Hungary.
Mak gave Slovakia a 40th minute lead, only for then a very good free-kick form Szoboszlai to fly past Martin Dubravka five minutes after half-time. However, on 56 minutes Bozenik restored Slovakia’s lead.
A fine second half display from Dubravka ensured a great away win as Hungary pressed for the equaliser.
Amongst a series of saves was one from Tamas Kadar, the former Newcastle defender. Whilst also playing the full 90 minutes was another one-time NUFC player, Lubomir Satka, on Dubravka’s side.
Meanwhile more good fortune for Martin Dubravka and his international teammates, as Croatia (who had hammered Slovakia 4-0 on Friday) only managed a 1-1 draw with bottom of the table Azerbaijan.
It leaves Group E with Croatia top on 10 points, then Slovakia ahead of Hungary but both on nine points, then Wales on six points but with a game in hand on the others.
In terms of internationals overall for Newcastle, Miguel Almiron completes the fixtures when Paraguay play Jordan later today, before he flies back to begin preparation for Newcastle’s game at Liverpool.
