Leicester City get free pass in League Cup with 17 changes and 4-0 walkover ahead of Newcastle United
Ayoze Perez now finds himself in the giddy position of having navigated two rounds of a cup competition with Leicester City.
No doubt he will be telling his old Newcastle teammates about this unbelievable feeling when he meets up with them on Sunday.
Anybody who was hoping that it was a cunning plan by Steve Bruce to play an almost second eleven against Leicester City and lose in the last round of the League Cup, so they would be negatively affected before Sunday’s league game with this extra cup match, will have been left very disappointed.
The Foxes were on a massive high after Saturday’s thrilling win over Spurs placed them third in the Premier League and Luton laid out the welcome mat on Tuesday night.
Finding life tough in the Championship after promotion, Luton are totally focused on trying to stay up, hence the 10 changes they made to their team last night.
Leicester City made seven changes of their own from the team that beat Tottenham but they have such a strong squad now, their much changed side was never going to have a problem away at Luton.
Ayoze Perez was one of four players to keep their places and he laid on the opening goal for Gray on 34 minutes, Justin adding another before the break.
Tielemans added a third goal on 79 minutes and just to underline the depth Leicester City have now, £25m striker Iheanacho scored the fourth on 86 minutes after having come off the bench to replace Ayoze Perez on 71 minutes.
All eyes on Sunday now and a very tough task lies in wait for Newcastle, pretty much a whole rested Leicester City first team who are just maybe looking real contenders to break into that top four/six this season.
