Leicester 5 Newcastle 0 – Instant United fan/writer reaction to Sunday’s defeat

Leicester 5 Newcastle 0  – Sunday 29 September 4.30pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle hammered at the King Power on Sunday afternoon.

Jamie Swan:

“One way ticket to the Championship is printed and speeding through the post.

“Worst manager in the league, worst owner in the known Universe and a squad without any goals.

“There is no game plan, the all too familiar capitulations we witnessed under McClaren (and yet not under Rafa) are already clocking up for Bruce.

“They say there is no greater certainty in life apart from death.

“Well until now…

“This team under Bruce, Charnley and Ashley will 100% be going down again and probably done by March.

“Stick it all up ya, Ashley you mug. Everyone could call this months ago apart from you.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“Never before have I seen such clear evidence of a side not really knowing or understanding the gameplan (if there was one), absolutely awful.

“Bad set up, and no spine from the start. Terrible.

“When you see them play as gutless as that, you think relegation is a mere formality.”

Paul Patterson:

“Utter Shambles.

“And despite what some staunch Newcastle fans have said, it WAS a red card. Watch Bruce blame the sending off.

“As for the result- it was expected regardless.

“Team/club in total disarray.

“The Relegation Bus has just started up…”

Ben Cooper:

“An effortless 5-0 victory for Leicester.

“United might have stayed in the game if Hayden hadn’t have been sent off in the first half but it is just as possible that his red card didn’t make any difference and it would have been a spanking anyway.

“They say in football that you learn more from your defeats than you do from your victories.

“If that is the case then we learned enough to do a PhD today.

“Never mind, the players are happier and it is all Rafa’s fault.”

David Punton:

“A total capitulation.

“Steve Bruce serving up a masterclass in tactical ineptitude in this drubbing, one that was never in doubt once Hayden saw red.

“In the two previous seasons, under the coaching of Rafa Benitez (er, remember him) we put in two lung busting displays, with perfectly executed away day tactics.

“Today was the stuff of nightmares and it leaves us deep relegation trouble already.

“The appointment of Bruce was always likely to turn out like this.

“He may very well be a nice bloke but he’s out of his depth at Newcastle United.

“Only Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley thought this this was a good idea.

“It’s backfiring on them spectacularly – and it’s the fans who suffer.”

Jamie Smith:

“Just wtf.

“Time was I’d be crushed by this kind of scoreline but now I just feel a bit numb to it all.

“There’s the possibility that crushingly bad seasons will vindicate the unrest at the bad management of the club and ultimately we’ll be rid of the malaise we’re in, but it’s still hard to see it happening before our eyes.

“Must win next week against a fellow relegation candidate…”

Brian Standen:

“One word…

“If that was a game between two kids teams and I was manager of the blues, I would have taken a player off and played 10 v 11 or played a few kids from the year below.

“That was embarrassing, the same word that I used last week for the Brighton game.

“It’s clear that this team are heading in only one direction which reminds me of a joke…

“What do you get if you cross a football club with a shopkeeper?

Nat Seaton:

“A day to forget for us travelling fans.

“Cannot think of one good thing to take away from today.

“So I’m going to TRY to switch off from it all on the journey back home and hope for better things next weekend…”

Kieran Reynolds:

“As bad a Newcastle performance as I can remember.

“Bruce got his tactics wrong again.

“He looks out of his depth and it is hard not to fear the worst.

“Are there three worse teams than us right now? I don’t think there are.

“Hayden tackle was a shocker and a deserved red card.”

Steve Hickey:

“Embarrassing, disgusting, clueless, more questions than answers.

“Last season we saw a masterclass in defending and counter attacking. Rafa prepared and executed to perfection, getting the best out of what we had.

“Today’s offering was very much the opposite, chasing the ball for long phases of the game, even with eleven.

“Hayden must learn that these days, hard tackles aren’t acceptable, even if you get the ball, unless of course you play for one of the big 6.

“Relegation performance, in a relegation place, with a team that struggle to score. Joint lowest scorers in the EPL.

“The future is looking bleak. I get no satisfaction at all in seeing all my predictions come true. Seriously, who wants to buy a nailed on relegation set up.

“Expect more apologies from the players and coach, nothing from the club.”
