Fans choice of this Newcastle team v Leicester
We asked fans the question, which 11 players would you pick in your Newcastle team v Leicester?
We put together a list of the 21 players who looked as though they could potentially be selected for this game.
On Friday morning, Steve Bruce indicated that four players were set to be named in the squad after fitness/injury problems/concerns.
The Head Coach saying that Sean Longstaff, Allan Saint-Maximin, Andy Carroll, DeAndre Yedlin are all available for the squad on Sunday.
However, Jonjo Shelvey has now got a hamstring injury.
As for Matt Ritchie, he is still not ready to return, as is the case of course with Florian Lejeune and Dwight Gayle.
An interesting selection this time, with eight players getting 88% or better support from Newcastle fans.
The usual suspects in many cases but they also include Allan Saint-Maximin (91%) and Sean Longstaff (88%) coming back into the team, now fit.
Ninth and tenth choices are Willems (76%) and Almiron (74%), both still scoring highly with three quarters of supporters choosing them.
However, the final choice is a bit of a strange one, as I can’t ever remember anybody with only 37% support ever making the top eleven.
Christian Atsu making the fans choice of Newcastle team v Leicester by default, with only that 37% backing.
The reason is that nobody has support to play right wing-back, as the voting went 36% Yedlin, 36% Manquillo and 28% Krafth.
A real weakness that proper investment wasn’t made in the wing-back positions this summer, I include Willems in this as well because he has been poor and his 76% backing is only due to the fact there appears to be no other realistic alternative for the position until Ritchie is available.
This is how the Newcastle team v Leicester looks based on the fan votes with the percentage votes (rounded up/down to nearest whole number) for each of the 21 players.
88% Sean Longstaff
