Embarrassing Newcastle United headlines ‘only’ 97 days ahead of January transfer window
The January transfer window looms large for Newcastle United.
That is, if you take any notice of the newspapers.
The local north east media are actually worse than the nationals.
So desperate for sales/clicks, these are the kind of nonsense headlines they have came up with in recent days:
‘Newcastle United eye £9m move for former Borussia Dortmund man’
‘Newcastle United ‘interested’ in Champions League striker – but face Premier League competition for RB Leipzig frontman’
‘Newcastle United transfer news: Sevilla midfielder ‘free’ to leave club; Danish forward linked with move’
‘Newcastle United eye January transfer deal amid injury and goal concerns’
‘Newcastle United’s early January shopping list: Two emerge as targets’
‘Transfer news LIVE: Newcastle January bid’
It was only last month when Newcastle United could have actually bought players, including any named in these shameless stories above.
So why when we are still 97 days away from the January transfer window, should we do anything but laugh at these lame efforts to generate interest/money for the papers?
I also saw one of the local newspapers run an ‘exclusive’ the other day.
The ‘exclusive’ was that Steve Bruce was going to talk to the scouting team about players they have gone to watch.
Well isn’t that just…normal.
Surely at every club this is just part of the normal routine, they all have scouts who go out and watch potential targets and then report back on what they have seen.
Otherwise, what would be the point of having them?
My assumption always is that Mike Ashley has zero intention of buying anybody in January and history points to that being true.
Only when relegation looks likely has he occasionally felt obliged to let money be spent.
It will just be more of the same this time.
Players won’t be targeted/approached or ‘moved for’ in September, it will be into January, more like 100 days time, before Mike Ashley decides if he has to push the panic button.
