Dismal picture for Newcastle United loan players – Only two of nine get a start

Very much a depressing weekend overall for the Newcastle United loan players.

Nine of them saw their loan clubs in action but as for them actually being involved in games, it was minimal.

In fact, only two of the nine started a game on Saturday.

Good to see Liam Gibson at last getting regular football after a shocking time in recent years with serious illness. He played the full game as Grimsby beat Macclesfield 1-0 in League Two.

However, when it comes to really thriving on loan this season, Freddie Woodman stands out a mile.

He has played every minute, starting all eight league games, to help put Swansea level on points with Leeds at the top of the Championship.

The Newcastle loan keeper has kept four clean sheets and only conceded five goals in their eight games.

The Swansea fans have really taken to him and Freddie Woodman spoke about them after keeping a clean sheet at Bristol City to earn Swansea a point;

“You could see how much this game meant to the fans. They travelled in their numbers.

“As soon as we stepped off the bus, I had shivers down my spine when they were roaring and singing their songs.

“The gaffer made it clear that we had to come here and play well for them. I feel like we put in a good performance and were unlucky not to get the three points.

“To be honest, I hadn’t heard about the Jack Army when I first arrived in Swansea, but I can’t speak highly enough of them.

“You could hear them right the way through the game.”

Here are details of all nine Newcastle United loan players, including how many league starts and sub appearances they have made this season.
