Club refuse to sell Chelsea away tickets to Newcastle United fans who aren’t members
The usual arrangements for Newcastle United fans buying away tickets, is that season ticket holders have first go.
Fans with a certain number of loyalty points able to buy, with it going down in stages until eventually all season tickets holders from zero loyalty points upwards can buy.
The next stage is then members (adult memberships cost £35 per year) can buy.
Then finally, remaining tickets go on sale to Newcastle fans without memberships or season tickets.
However, on Monday morning Newcastle United have announced that even if there are still Chelsea tickets left unsold, they won’t be making them available to fans who don’t have season tickets or memberships.
The club haven’t given any reason/justification for this, so we can only assume that it is some lame attempt to try and force Newcastle fans to pay £35 for a membership.
In the past, the only selling points for paying the membership were to place yourself higher up the queue for home tickets, whilst hoping for away tickets that it reached the members stage.
However, with the current climate of thousands and thousands of empty seats every match at St James Park, there is no reason to buy a membership.
Whilst for away tickets it had also become the same, the allocation selling out but not before plenty tickets had become available for fans who didn’t have memberships/season tickets.
It all comes over as very petty and indeed counter-productive. On Monday morning the Newcastle United ticketing site shows 918 tickets still available for Chelsea and with games such as this usually relying on many exiles in the south buying up tickets, it remains to be seen if Steve Bruce’s team will have a full away end backing them at Stamford Bridge.
Interesting to see if the club do the same for other away games.
