Adam Webster expecting to face 50,000 screaming Geordies – Hasn’t been keeping up with the news

Adam Webster might be a little bit disappointed, or pleasantly surprised, when he turns up at St James Park on Saturday.

The Brighton defender is expecting to ‘50,000 Geordies screaming at us’ as he and Brighton take on Newcastle.

It just shows that as football fans we are all guilty of living in a bubble at times.

We think that everybody has perfect knowledge of all the ins and outs at St James Park but that isn’t the case.

The pundits/experts think they do (have perfect knowledge) but their comments usually point to the fact that they haven’t got a clue and just try to wing it.

It will be the first time Adam Webster will have played at St James Park after making a rapid rise through the divisions, the 24 year old defender costing Brighton around £18m in the summer after impressing in the Championship at Bristol City.

The reality is that with over 10,000 seats unsold and an unknown number of season ticket holders also likely to give a 5.30pm live match on the TV a miss, the crowd will be more like 40,000 than Webster’s expectation of a packed SJP.

Whether there will any screaming remains to be seen…

Adam Webster talking to The Argus:

“It’s a tough place to go and with 50,000 Geordies screaming at us, we know it won’t be easy.

“But we did it against City, so we can go anywhere and do that.

“We did it against the champions and all stood up to it so there is no reason why not.

“We shall be looking to go there and win. If we prepare right and, hopefully, get a result.”

“It is something we work on every week. They (set-pieces) change every week depending on the opposition, so hopefully we can start adding those goals to our game.”
