What all 20 Premier League clubs have spent with one day of transfer window to go

One day of the summer 2019 transfer window remaining for Premier League clubs to do their last frantic pieces of business.

The excellent Sporting Intelligence have been analysing what each of the 20 Premier League clubs have spent so far.

They confidently predict that this summer will end up setting a new record for the total spend on new signings.

The current record stands from two years ago, when in summer 2017 there was a massive £1.425bn spent by the then 20 Premier League clubs.

So far, this current window has seen £1.252bn paid out so far by Newcastle United and the other 19 clubs, up to 9.30pm last night (Wednesday 7 August).

That leaves it £173m short of the 2017 total but analysts confidently expect a fair bit more than £173m worth of deals to be confirmed today by the 5pm deadline.

Sunday’s opponents Arsenal will complete left back Tierney today from Celtic, whilst Tottenham are expected to spend big on a number of deals on the final day. Most other clubs are also predicted to be doing more business, though it remains to be seen whether  Newcastle will contribute more than the £5m that will be added, when Emil Krafth is announced as an NUFC player today.

This Sporting Intelligence table shows total spending by each of the 20 Premier League clubs, as well as how much they have generated by sales, as well as then the net spend for each (up to 9.30pm last night):

As you can see, with one day to go, Newcastle are 11th highest when it comes to spending with a total spend so far of £52.4m.

Whilst in terms of net spend after sales are deducted, Newcastle have paid a net £20.7m out, the 12th highest.

Interesting to look at the promoted clubs and Aston Villa have a staggering £137.5m net spend.

Sheffield United have a net spend twice as much as Newcastle’s at £41.5m.

Whilst at the other extreme, Norwich have spent just £5.1m on players and a net spend of £3.7m, relying (so far) on a few budget buys, free transfers and loans.

Interesting to see how the final table looks after today…
