Steve Bruce’s old club in talks to sign Jacob Murphy

News on Wednesday afternoon that Jacob Murphy could be on the move once again.

The Sheffield Star are reporting that their information is that talks have been held between Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday, which could see the winger head to Hillsborough on loan.

The 24 year old has struggled to make any impression at St James Park and made only there Premier League starts last season, before then heading to West Brom on loan in January.

He had a few very good games but once again struggled for consistency. Jacob Murphy ended up making 15 appearances for the Baggies and scoring two goals but was named on the bench as often as in the team (nine of each).

Whilst talks have been held with Sheffield Wednesday, the report says that they face competition from other second tier sides, including Derby County, Huddersfield Town and Fulham.

The one sure thing is that Jacob Murphy must go out somewhere on loan for regular football, as he won’t get it at Newcastle this season.

Indeed, if by chance he did stay, he might not even be included in the official 25 man Premier League squad.

With Emil Krafth expected to sign in the next 24 hours, that would mean 27 outfield players and only 22 spaces. As well as Murphy, the likes of Sterry, Colback, Lazaar and one or two others are expected to go out before tomorrow’s 5pm deadline to other English clubs, almost certainly on loan.

Newcastle loaned Aarons and Lazaar to the Owls when Steve Bruce was there last season and if a deal could be done for Jacob Murphy, it could help to smooth over the friction caused by Bruce’s departure to Newcastle last month.
