Steve Bruce set to play 2 new signings today despite admitting he and the squad haven’t seen them yet
Steve Bruce has confirmed the absolute chaos at Newcastle United this summer.
Newcastle fans having to wait until six days before transfer deadline to see the second and third signings of this transfer window arrive.
Allan Saint-Maximim (ASM) announced as a buy on Friday night, with Jetro Willems also arriving but on an initial loan arrangement.
On Saturday afternoon just ahead of naming his team to play St Etienne in the final pre-season friendly, Steve Bruce has been asked whether these two late signings will play any part today.
The NUFC head coach saying both of them will definitely get on the pitch, with Willems likely to start and ASM coming off the bench.
All a bit mad to throw players onto the pitch despite being signed less than 24 hours ago.
Steve Bruce himself summing up the chaos/madness: ‘We haven’t seen them, the squad haven’t seen them. It is a bit unfair to just throw them in today.’
You can’t help feeling this is a bit of a case of orders from above, to try and create a buzz around seeing new signings.
Bruce adding: ‘So they can have a look and see what we are trying today and see how we are trying to play.’
Surely in any normal club you would them sitting in the stands and taking it all in at this very early point BUT when you leave it so late to make signings, this is the net result.
Steve Bruce speaking to NUFC TV and asked whether Allan Saint-Maximin will play against St Etienne:
“Well, I’m just going to have a word with them as we speak.
“Maybe Jetro (Willems) will start and the other boy will start on the bench probably.
“That’s the way I’m looking at it.
“But they will certainly take part in some part of the game.
“We haven’t seen them, the squad haven’t seen them.
“It is a bit unfair to just throw them in today.
“So they can have a look and see what we are trying today and see how we are trying to play.
“That will be beneficial.”
