Steve Bruce now clear favourite in Premier League Sack Race
The Premier League Sack Race is on.
Only two games into the season and already the pressure is piling on those who have made losing starts.
The first mini milestone will be the end of the month, by which point Newcastle United and the other 19 clubs will have played four Premier League matches and (apart from those clubs in Europe) a League Cup second round tie.
Looking at last season, it took over three months for the first sacking, Jokanovic dispatched by Fulham.
It was a relatively quiet season with ‘only’ six managers leaving their Premier League posts, although Fulham also had the distinction of the sixth and final one, Ranieri just over three months after taking over.
14 November 2018 – Jokanovic (Fulham)
3 December 2018 – Mark Hughes (Southampton)
18 December 2018 – Jose Mourinho (Man Utd)
14 January 2019 – David Wagner (Huddersfield)
24 February 2019 – Claude Puel (Leicester)
28 February 2019 – Claudio Ranieri (Fulham)
As for the 2019/20 Premier League Sack Race, along with now being favourites to be relegated, Newcastle United also have the favourite for the first manager (or head coach) to go.
These are the up to date prices from Oddschecker from all the various bookies, showing the best price for all 20 Premier League bosses in terms of odds on them being first to go.
Steve Bruce heads the list at 4/1, whilst Klopp and Guardiola are 100/1 to be the first. To sum up how safe they are, it is the same price for not one Premier League manager to leave this season, something which there is zero chance of happening in this era.
