Steve Bruce confirms three new Newcastle United injuries after Leicester defeat

Whatever Steve Bruce might say, it is another season and yet another cup exit before Newcastle reach September.

Despite being at home, United only had 32% possession and barely put any pressure on Schmeichel’s goal.

Yes Newcastle went out on penalties but when you struggle to create any chances, not sure what positives can be taken from this.

Steve Bruce promised to play his very best team in the cups, the reality though was that he made seven changes to his Premier League team and fell well short. Four of the players on the bench having started against Tottenham at the weekend.

Allan Saint-Maximin aggravated his hamstring injury at Spurs after Steve Bruce rushed him back despite the French winger only having came back to full training 48 hours earlier.

In defeat to Leicester, Steve Bruce has detailed another three players set to miss out.

The NUFC Head Coach stating that Jetro Willems now has a hamstring injury after the Leicester match, whilst Emil Krafth has a thigh strain.

Having added those two to the injured list, Steve Bruce was especially unhappy with a third.

The NUFC team boss complaining about a challenge that forced Matt Ritcie off.

Steve Bruce talking to BBC Newcastle:

“He’s in a mess Matt Ritchie, at the moment.

“We hope he hasn’t done ankle ligaments but it certainly looks that way.

“He’s got cuts where he needs stitches and two or three wounds on his leg.

“The challenge on Matt Ritchie, if VAR was in operation today, it was a red card; it was a horror challenge.

“The referee missed a blatant red card and he was (only) five yards away.

“The injury problems have been huge for us and I’ve been forced to make changes with the injuries we picked up at the weekend.

“The team we put out, after seven changes, I thought were terrific in their work.

“It’s disappointing, with the changes we had to make and we’ve lost two or three players out there tonight.

“A very good Leicester team but there was nothing in the game at all.”
