Steve Bruce comments after Norwich 3 Newcastle 1 are even more concerning than the result
Steve Bruce has been talking after today’s match.
A 3-1 loss at Norwich that could have easily have been a five or six goal defeat.
Steve Bruce says if only Newcastle had taken one of their two chances in the 90 minutes, things might have been different…
Daniel Farke will be saying the same thing, that things could and should have been different in terms of a doubling the winning margin, or worse, from a Newcastle perspective.
Newcastle fans were split when Steve Bruce was appointed.
Those that thought he was a disastrous appointment.
Those that thought he was a disastrous appointment who you had to now simply blindly get behind.
We all want the best for Newcastle United and simply have varying ideas how this can happen.
What is surely obvious for everybody by now is that Newcastle United can never be a success whilst Mike Ashley is owner and Steve Bruce is head coach.
Steve Bruce promised us attacking football, playing on the front foot, how we were going to attack the cups, sweep away the negativity (reality?) that existed before he arrived.
That all looks/sounds as believable as Bruce’s claim that he chooses who Newcastle buy and sell.
Newcastle were defensive against Arsenal and even worse today.
Completely outplayed and even Rafa’s previously rock solid defence was all over the place.
After the final whistle on this shambles, Steve Bruce said ‘We always knew Norwich were going to be difficult…’, he says this after playing relegation favourites, what on earth will he have to say when we play Liverpool and Tottenham in the next three games???
One thing I can definitely agree with, is when the head coach says ‘The answers lie within’…too right they do, starting with Mike Ashley and winding their way down through Lee Charnley, Justin Barnes and Keith Bishop, before we end up with Steve Bruce himself and a squad that needed essential repair work in the summer and was dismally let down.
The PR nonsense against Rafa Benitez and the Newcastle fans was the only priority for Mike Ashley this summer and we are all now paying the price.
“The answers lie within.
“We will look at things on Monday.
“I have got to be ready for the flak which will be coming my way.
“To be perfectly honest you sometimes deserve a bit of stick.
“I have got no problem with that because today…we weren’t good enough
“Nowhere near good enough.
“This was a disappointing afternoon, with and without the ball.
“I can’t question the desire, nobody wasn’t trying.
“Maybe we got caught up in Norwich’s first home game…
“The big turning point was when we missed those two chances before the goal.
“You might not be at your best but the big chances we had, we have got to take one of those.
“If we had taken one then it might have given us that belief that was lacking…
“It was difficult and hugely disappointing, the manner of it, with and without the ball.
“We didn’t do enough and we have to improve.
“We always knew Norwich were going to be difficult, they play a certain way and romped away with the Championship, so we were under no illusions this was going to be difficult.
“Simply disappointing, nowhere near good enough.
“A couple of wonderful chances that could have given us a spark and might have given everybody a lift…it won’t mask the result.”
