Norwich fans comments on Steve Bruce and Newcastle United – Brutal

Norwich fans were looking forward to their first Premier League home game for over three years.

A bit of a reality check eight days earlier at Anfield, what could they do against Newcastle United…

The kind of game where the Norwich fans were no doubt thinking this will be a good guide as to their chances of staying up, playing a team that will be somewhere between bottom and mid-table.

Well by 5pm yesterday, no doubt they are seeing survival as the very least they can expect, if Steve Bruce’s NUFC are a decent guide.

In their comments (see below) after the 3-1 win, Norwich fans were understandably elated at their team’s performance under the leadership of Daniel Farke.

Having to make a large profit last summer in the transfer market, Farke put together a Championship winning team on the back of free transfers such as Tim Krul and Teemu Pukki.

This summer there was some money spent but very little in terms of what you might have expected.

Little wonder after this game that the home supporters were/are making comparisons with Newcastle United.

Some brutal comments on Steve Bruce, the Newcastle team and Joelinton in particular – especially compared to Pukki, the only sympathy being for the travelling fans.

The thing is, very difficult to argue with anything the Norwich fans had to say, unless you didn’t see yesterday’s game and/or you are in denial.

Norwich fans commenting via their Pink Un message board:

‘Steve Bruce has definitely put his stamp on the Newcastle side.’

‘I feel sorry for the Newcastle fans.

Deserve better.

Lot of time money and effort (far more than their players) to watch them stroll around not giving a fu… Seriously, what have they done all game?’

‘Newcastle spent about £40m on Joelinton. Godfrey made him look like Championship at best. Ben is scaringly good.

‘Joelinton didn’t fancy it after about 30 mins, knew he couldn’t get the better of Godfrey with pace and missed a header any £40m centre forward should score.

As soon as he got a chance to find a reason to come off he made sure he did.’

‘He didn’t look £40m-worth of player today, that’s for sure….though the other guy Almiron wasn’t too much kop either.’

‘Ever felt so comfortable in the prem?

Once we got our first goal, it really felt like we werent going to let it slip. It’s not like other wins we’ve had in the prem where after getting ahead you felt completely under pressure holding out for the win.

It’s not even the 3 goals and the result. It was our dominance for most of the 90 minutes against a premier league squad.’

‘We were a little slow out the blocks first 10 mins second half but otherwise dominated the game. 3 – 1 flattered Newcastle.’

‘Yes we played very well but Newcastle were awful. On that performance they are nailed on for relegation.

Apparently they spent £40m on their centre forward. I saw several forwards in the Championship last season who gave us more problems than him.’

‘Newcastle had two, maybe three small spells of possession. Otherwise, they’ve been chasing their own shadows all game.’

‘I dont know if our defending has been a lot better or if Newcastle have just been sh..’

‘It would have been nice to have remained ‘ under the radar ‘ for a little while longer.

I guess Pukki’s hat-trick has put paid to that.’

‘I think it’s safe to slag Newcastle off now.

How cr.p have they been?

Worst opposition I’ve seen us play for a long while. They’re in for a tough old season if they dont improve.’

‘Pukki has more than half of the league goals in 2 games than Joelinton scored all last season for Hoffenheim.

£40m vs free.’

‘Watched Newcastle last week and thought they showed very little. Seen nothing so far to change my opinion…numerous teams in the Championship showed more.’

‘Take my hat off to Hanley today, playing to his max.’

‘Excellent performance that. Really do think Leitner makes a huge difference. So composed and able to retain possession.

Amazed Newcastle didn’t press us since Bruce was managing in the champ last season so knows how we play.’

‘Superb performance. Amazing how it’s turned in a game. We’re now only a point from the champions league and Pukki is a on for the golden boot.

Newcastle looked naive and will go down defending like that.’

‘Pukki, Letiner, Cantwell, Godfrey outstanding. Hanley undoubtly weak link.

We’re going to have an exciting/entertaining season – that said Newcastle are a poor poor side, so not getting carried away.’

‘Do you think Newcastle fans would rather have paid £40m for Pukki?’

‘Newcastle and Southampton both looking poor. Southampton gifted a goal late on by the sounds of it without causing any problems all game, right now they’re surely the favourite for going down.’

‘We really were superb, Leitner was total class, brilliant link up play, always available, not a weakness in the side. And I had a fiver on 3-1, mixed emotions when Shelvey scored!’

‘Leitner – just WOW, WOW, WOW. Buendia and Stiepermann were the weak links, and they still had excellent games!

£40M striker? You’ve been mugged Newcastle.’
