The results of the Newcastle v Arsenal player ratings by fans.

Always interested to see what supporters have collectively made of the latest performance, when using our interactive ratings system.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

I think the fan ratings perfectly sum up this opening game.

The ratings reflecting an ok/average first half and then after the break, a poor display by the team and individuals generally.

The clear man of the match was Isaac Hayden (6.9), doing a good job in the middle of the pitch and ending up as the sole natural midfielder left on the pitch, after Steve Bruce failed to name any on the bench.

Three others scraped 6.0 or better.

Almiron (6.1) looked lively but suffered from lack of movement elsewhere in the team, whilst Joelinton (6.0) had some decent moments putting a header just wide and a shot straight at the keeper.

Dubravka (6.0) is the other one, left exposed for the goal and apart from that did ok in a game of few shots at either end.

After that it was a very common theme, all of the other seven starters rated between 5.2 and 5.7.

At the upper end you had Shelvey (5.7) who did ok in the first half and struck the post before being forced off with a knock early in the second.

Dummett (5.6) generally did ok but was partly at fault on the goal, even though Willems was most culpable in not moving towards the pass.

Schar and Ritchie (both 5.4) were committed as usual, whilst Lascelles (5.3) and Manquillo (5.2) were steady against a weakened and limited Arsenal attacking threat. Sean Longstaff (5.1) was a little bit anonymous on the day.

As for the subs, Allan Saint-Maximin (5.7) looked lively with pace and dribbling technique but Jetro Willems (3.6) had a debut off the bench to forget, at fault for the goal and struggling to understand where he should be positioned on the pitch when introduced.

Below are the ratings as voted by Newcastle fans up to 10am Tuesday:
