Newcastle United now favourites for Premier League relegation after one week under Steve Bruce
Before the season started, the bookies made Newcastle United a comfortable mid-table finisher this time.
However, only one week and two games later, their verdict has very much changed and of course the money being gambled on the various clubs is havingĀ the biggest influence.
Steve Bruce’s Newcastle now the favourites to go down.
They currently share favouritism with Sheffield United as both are now 5/4 to go down.
However, the Blades have already got four points after a very credible draw at Bournemouth and then beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday, although it could and should have been a three goal winning margin.
To sum up how bleak Newcastle’s position looks at the moment, it is Norwich (11/8) who are currently the favourites to take the third Premier League relegation spot.
That being the same Norwich who tore Newcastle apart yesterday, the final 3-1 scoreline very much flattering NUFC.
With Spurs and Liverpool away up next, sandwiching Watford at home, it looks like tough times in the short-term at least.
With injury worries now for Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin, what looked a tough opening now looks to have gone up a couple of notches.
Of course it hasn’t been helped when with a squad desperate to have goals added to it, Mike Ashley brought in an injured Andy Carroll who is rarely, if ever, fit anyway.
If Newcastle are anything but odds-on to be relegated after these next three games, that will give at least some hope and surely means NUFC would have to beat Watford. That game falling only three days after Leicester in the League Cup, with both Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce having promised pre-season to throw everything at the cups…
