Newcastle United in talks with Bordeaux for Francois Kamano transfer – L’Equipe
Francois Kamano is now reported to be a deadline day target for Newcastle United.
Newcastle and Bordeaux are said to be in talks about the 23 year old attacking player/winger moving to St James park.
L’Equipe state that Bordeaux want to sell the Guinea international this window and their selling price is 15m euros (£13.8m).
Monaco and Genoa have also registered their interest in the player but so far no acceptable bid has been made.
Interesting looking back (see below) as Newcastle United have been regularly linked with Francois Kamano previously, in November the French media reporting that Newcastle were still sending scouts to watch him.
As with all transfer stories, you believe it when you see it, but Newcastle have done business with Bordeaux in the past when signing Gouffran and Saivet, plus they had been in talks about potentially signing Youssouf Sabaly before instead going for Emil Krafth.
Newcastle fans have been concerned about the apparent lack of goals in the squad and the need to sign at least one more attacking player.
Francois Kamano is quick and versatile, can play on the left or right of an attacking three or as a winger, plus most importantly he scores goals.
Last season he managed 13 in total for Bordeaux, 10 in 29 Ligue 1 starts (eight appearances as a sub) and another three in the Europa League.
Signed for around £2m plus add-ons from Bastia in 2016, he has a very decent overall record for Bordeaux of 24 goals in 69 Ligue 1 starts (plus 33 sub appearances).
Francois Kamano has had an extended break due to playing at this summer’s African Cup of Nations, which could well have helped delay a transfer being sorted much earlier, to wherever he ends up.
The Mag – 26 November 2018:
News from France that Newcastle United have once again sent representatives to watch Francois Kamano.
The 22 year old attacker usually plays on the left side of a Bordeaux front three and is their top scorer with seven Ligue 1 goals so far, exactly half their overall total.
Those goals have come in 13 league starts this season (plus one appearance off the bench).
The French media have previously reported on Newcastle sending scouts to watch the Guinea international.
This time it is Mercato365 who say that Newcastle United were represented on Saturday at Dijon, where Bordeaux earned a point thanks to a goalless draw.
The highlight for Francois Kamano was a goal which was disallowed.
The Bordeaux attacking player signed from Bastia for £2m in summer 2016 as a 20 year old and this is the first season when he has been a regular starter.
The past two Ligue 1 seasons saw him score six and eight goals as he made 17 starts (13 sub appearances) and 23 starts (12 sub appearances) respectively.
In fact he is already into double figures in terms of goals, with three in the Europa League as well so far.
Francois Kamano is clearly a promising and improving player, who also knows where the goal is, so it would take a sizeable offer to tempt Bordeaux in January.
Newcastle weren’t the only club there on Saturday watching Kamano and Bordeaux, with the likes of Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Burnley and Crystal Palace also represented.
Only five weeks now until the January transfer window opens and in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Rafa Benitez once again stated he would make no contract decision until he saw what happened in this upcoming window.
