Newcastle United agree terms with Emil Krafth – Report

Seven days ago we brought you news that Newcastle United had seen a bid turned down for Emil Krafth.

The Swedish international right-back turned 25 on Friday and French media reported (see below) that a bid of around £4.6m had been turned down.

However, the French minnows are happy to turn a quick profit on a player who was on loan last season with them and who they have activated a £1.8m buying clause for this summer.

The expectation being that Newcastle had to go only a little higher to land him.

Now on Wednesday morning, there is news that Newcastle United have now gone in with a higher offer which has been accepted.

The Mail don’t say what that successful bid figure has been but they do mention a £4.5m bid that was rejected last week and state that Amiens had been looking for £6m, so looks like a compromise has been reached.

The Northern Echo also report the Emil Krafth imminent transfer, they say the fee is around £5m and that loose personal terms have been agreed. The expectation is they will be finalised quickly this morning and the defender will arrive for his medial later today.

Whilst any other arrivals sound less certain, it does appear that a right-back/wing-back will be signed. Tuesday brought news that an offer had also been accepted for Senegal full-back Youssouf Sabaly of Bordeaux, with the player having a choice of Newcastle or Watford.

Obviously deals can fall down for whatever reason so it looks like NUFC are making certain this weak position is strengthened with one or the other. Emil Krafth with likely be cheaper on both wages and transfer fee so my money is on him being signed ahead of Sabaly.

The Mag – 31 July 2019:

News from France on Wednesday that a bid by Newcastle United to buy Emil Krafth has been rejected.

Amiens are reported to have turned down a 5m euros (£4.6m bid) for the right-back.

Newcastle’s initial interest was first reported by L’Equipe in the Swedish international who turns 25 on Friday.

However, it is soccer-link who have brought this update the French media site said by GFFN to have very good links with Amiens.

Emil Krafth spent last season on loan and helped the French club stay in Ligue 1, ending up 15th and four points clear of relegation.

Amiens taking advantage this summer of a buying price clause of £1.8m included in his one year loan from Bologna.

He moved from Helsingborg in his native Sweden to Bologna in 2015 and made 42 Serie A appearances over three years but didn’t manage to hold down a regular first team spot.

However, last season he impressed with Amiens, starting  33 of their 38 Ligue 1 games and two other appearances off the bench.

Soccer Link say that Newcastle United want to get the signing sorted quickly and are expected to com back with a better bid which should be expected, as the difference in valuations isn’t that great.

A small club that don’t have a lot of cash to throw around, they should end up trebling the £1.8m they paid this summer for a quick profit.

Scandinavian defenders have a decent record in the Premier League and the styles of football of the players tend to be very similar to English football.

It actually looks like quite a credible signing for the likely money, Emil Krafth as 20 international caps and was out at the world Cup last summer, starting the game against England.

Right-back is undoubtedly a position, amongst others, that needs strengthening at Newcastle with Yedlin and Manquillo not the greatest of defenders.
