Newcastle United 25 man Premier League squad set to be named so which 5 will miss out?

Now that the 2019 summer transfer window has closed, Newcastle United must choose a 25 man Premier League squad.

Only those players are allowed to play in the league until we reach the January 2020 transfer window, at which point changes can be made for the second part of the season.

Deadline day saw Andy Carroll and Emil Krafth arrive, whilst only Jacob Murphy left – on a loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

The net result is that Newcastle now have 30 senior players (players classed as under 21 are additional) and only 25 places available.

So six players will miss out.

Here are the 30 players:

Goalkeepers

Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot,

Right-Back/Right Wing-back

Emil Krafth, Javier Manquillo, DeAndre Yedlin, Jamie Sterry,

Left-Back/Left Wing-back

Matt Ritchie, Paul Dummett, Jetro Willems, Achraf Lazaar

Centre-Back

Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez,  Ciaran Clark

Central Midfield

Sean Longstaff, Isaac Hayden, Ki Sung-yeung, Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet, Jack Colback,

Right Side Attack

Allan Saint-Maximin

Left Side Attack

Miguel Almiron, Christian Atsu, Rolando Aarons

Centre-Forward

Joelinton, Dwight Gayle, Yoshinori Muto, Andy Carroll

I’m guessing those three goal keepers will all be named and so it is a case of 27 outfield players for 22 spaces.

With the Premier League (and Championship) now operating on this early closure of the transfer window, it does mean Newcastle won’t necessarily be landed with players still at the club and getting paid but unable to play.

Unwanted players can still be sold or go on loan to League One and League Two clubs until early September, which is also the case with most European leagues (and many beyond).

Looking at the five set to miss out, I would guess the most obvious are Jamie Sterry, Achraf Lazaar, Rolando Aarons, Henri Saivet and Jack Colback. Indeed Lazaar was reported yesterday to have flown to Italy so he could have talks with a potential new club.

As for outside bets?

Well, players that were rumoured could be sold before the deadline, you had Javier Manquillo, DeAndre Yedlin, Ciaran Clark and Dwight Gayle.

None of the four would be playing in League One and in terms of overseas leagues, who knows?

I think we definitely need Clark and Gayle to stay, so maybe Yedlin or Manquillo is the only possibility with Krafth now added to compete for that place on the right side of defence.
