Jacob Murphy is on his way now for a medical at Sheffield Wednesday – Sky Sports
Jacob Murphy is en route to South Yorkshire to take his medical.
Sky Sports reporting that the Newcastle United winger has agreed a year’s loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday had brought news of talks between the Owls and the Magpies, with Sheff Wed having successfully fought off an attempt by fellow Championship club Wigan.
The imminent transfer suggests that the friction between the owners of the two clubs which was sparked by Steve Bruce forcing a move, has now been smoothed over.
Late yesterday also brought news that Rolando Aarons could also make the same move, returning to Hillsborough after showing decent form there earlier this year under Steve Bruce, before injury struck.
With Emil Krafth set to sign today, Newcastle will have 27 senior outfield players and only 22 places for them in the official Premier League squad that has to be named after this window closes.
As well as Aarons and Murphy, the likes of Lazaar, Sterry, Saivet and Colback are all candidates for moving out.
Dwight Gayle is reported to be a possibility if a big enough bid comes in.
Whilst for fans, they just hope there isn’t any last minute bad news with any first choice player leaving.
The Mag – Wednesday 7 August 2019:
News on Wednesday afternoon that Jacob Murphy could be on the move once again.
The Sheffield Star are reporting that their information is that talks have been held between Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday, which could see the winger head to Hillsborough on loan.
The 24 year old has struggled to make any impression at St James Park and made only there Premier League starts last season, before then heading to West Brom on loan in January.
He had a few very good games but once again struggled for consistency. Jacob Murphy ended up making 15 appearances for the Baggies and scoring two goals but was named on the bench as often as in the team (nine of each).
Whilst talks have been held with Sheffield Wednesday, the report says that they face competition from other second tier sides, including Derby County, Huddersfield Town and Fulham.
The one sure thing is that Jacob Murphy must go out somewhere on loan for regular football, as he won’t get it at Newcastle this season.
Indeed, if by chance he did stay, he might not even be included in the official 25 man Premier League squad.
With Emil Krafth expected to sign in the next 24 hours, that would mean 27 outfield players and only 22 spaces. As well as Murphy, the likes of Sterry, Colback, Lazaar and one or two others are expected to go out before tomorrow’s 5pm deadline to other English clubs, almost certainly on loan.
Newcastle loaned Aarons and Lazaar to the Owls when Steve Bruce was there last season and if a deal could be done for Jacob Murphy, it could help to smooth over the friction caused by Bruce’s departure to Newcastle last month.
