If any circus is missing a clown, Tony Cascarino is available after these Newcastle United comments

Tony Cascarino is at it again.

He has a bit of a track record of talking absolute nonsense about Newcastle United but he has gone for broke his time.

The player turned pundit appearing on Mike Ashley’s favourite radio station.

It sounds like Tony Cascarino was in the pub and one of Ashley’s PR people has came in and said:

‘Look Tony, we’ve got a job for you. You are on in five minutes and we just want you to say whatever might confuse a few people, mention Rafa Benitez, Newcastle United, Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley as many times as you like. None of it has to make sense, just keep talking and don’t worry, only Newcastle fans will really understand that none of it makes any sense whatsoever…’

If any circus is missing a clown then they need to look no further than Tony Cascarino.

In his muddled argument to try and defend Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce, his big trump card is the revelation that Newcastle under Rafa didn’t win a game until 3 November 2018 last season, as though any of us didn’t know this!

That was after a summer 2o18 transfer window where Mike Ashley refused to give Rafa Benitez any transfer budget and instead insisted on a £20m+ profit on deals in and out. Despite selling Mitrovic for £22m (rising  to £27m), Ashley refused to allow any offer to be made to buy Rondon and even to get him on loan, Rafa had to wait until transfer deadline week AND agree to let Gayle go out as part of the deal.

Newcastle fans knew what a massive challenge the manager had, having to play Joselu until Rondon was fully fit, with also such a weak squad overall due to a refusal to allow proper investment by the NUFC owner. Newcastle fans trusted Benitez because of his CV and what he had already shown at the club, understanding NUFC couldn’t have a better manager in the circumstances.

Hilariously, Tony Cascarino also thinks that it was NUFC/Mike Ashley doing Rafa Benitez a big favour, when two months after leaving the biggest club in the world (Real Madrid), they left him have the task of taking over an all but already relegated Newcastle United and then having the job of getting them back in the Premier League…

Cascarino also insists that Newcastle fans have to keep on blindly supporting the club and that Mike Ashley is genuine about selling the club, apparently he has only been unlucky in not finding a buyer these past 11 years.

Tony Cascarino tells Newcastle fans Rafa ‘Walked out on your football club’…no, he left at the end of his contract because he knew he was wasting his time.

Mike Ashley has admitted that the £40m signing of Joelinton was agreed back in February and that Rafa had to agree to this and other young overseas signings, with decent size transfer fees for older players not allowed, if he was to stay on. Ashley/Charnleyy stated that a maximum of £61m would be available to spend in summer 2019, so if £40m was already going on Joelinton, then not much available for other signings. Particularly difficult when Rafa was getting even less freedom to choose signings.

Read for yourself the Tony Cascarino nonsense….

Tony Cascarino speaking to Talksport:

“We are not saying Mike Ashley is right, that is not the point.

“Steve Bruce has also made mistakes in the first couple of games.

“I just remind Newcastle fans, that Rafa’s rovers, OK, last year, didn’t win a game to November 3rd.

“So they had a dreadful start last season.

“Now Newcastle fans have to support the club.

“Yes Mike Ashley is not the owner you desire. That will change.

I’m pretty sure there will be a buyer for Newcastle, it is how long it takes.

“And Stevie Bruce admitted today that he has made mistakes already. If he doesn’t get them right he won’t be Newcastle Manager.

“This is nothing anti-Rafa, he has been and still is a very good manager.

“No they didn’t (play the prettiest football under Rafa Benitez) and he found a way of winning games and he had the support of the fans, total backing.

“But he walked out on your football club.

“Anybody who thinks any different, he’s gone to China to manage.

Mike Ashley said, and I believe him on this, that when they had negotiations before the season ended, that he knew he was going. His ands were tied around Rafa. Unless he was going to literally sign the club over to Rafa, he was going.

“Newcastle done Rafa a big favour, they gave him an opportunity to be a manager again in the Premier League.

“And OK, we know his CV, it is brilliant.

“He has won things…he has won Champions League, he has won Spanish La Liga, challenged for the title in England coming second.

“Look, lets remember, he is a very good manager, but Newcastle gave him that opportunity to show what he can do.”
