Daniel Farke after facing Newcastle United “We were like a thunderstorm, with only one team in it”

Daniel Farke must have been full of concerns throughout the first half hour at Carrow Road.

Norwich so much on top and creating chance after chance but not taking them, surely they had to score or else they’d pay for it later.

He need not have bothered himself.

Newcastle were never in the game and Norwich strolled it, the result never in doubt once the home side at last took one of their many chances.

Norwich eventually scoring in the 32nd minute and went in one up at half-time, Steve Bruce carrying massive luck and Daniel Farke declaring about that first 45 minutes: ‘We created many lightnings but only had one lightning strike.’

After a couple of more ‘lightning strikes’ in the second half, Norwich City were on easy street and by the end Daniel Farke was clear:’We were like a thunderstorm, with only one team in it.’

Plenty of self-inflicted storm clouds hanging over St James Park now and the Newcastle fans have been forecasting them ever since this summer of total failure and chaos from Mike Ashley.

Norwich manager Daniel Farke talking to the official Norwich site:

“Carrow Road was buzzing today.

“The performance was great and we deserved the three points.

“The players have a lot of tactical knowledge and we work really hard to put it into practice.

“It’s important you have a good start in the Premier League so I was really pleased with not only the result but also the performance.

“We were great today in all topics and it’s a brilliant afternoon for the whole Club.

“It’s important to get those points for the mood and confidence.

“You didn’t want to be under pressure to win games or close gaps, so it’s a big thing mentally to win so early in the season.

“My feeling was that we were even better in the first half.

“We were like a thunderstorm, with only one team in it.

“We created many lightnings but only had one lightning strike, when we could have had many more and I would have preferred to have had two or three goals.

“But in the second half we were really clinical and we controlled the game. It was an all-round performance from my lads.

“As a manager you always want a clean sheet, and I felt our defence deserved a clean sheet, but we’d made a few changes at that stage (wen Shelvey scored in final seconds) which affected our rhythm.

“There was a bit of pressure on us because we conceded four goals at Liverpool but today they were terrific, so big, big compliments to our back line.

“Not only was I pleased with our offensive performance I thought we were brilliant in our defensive performance too.

“They were really brilliant finishes from Teemu. His workload was brilliant, and I remember him gaining possession back close to our own 18-yard box and this is exactly the mentality and spirit we need.

“It’s not about individual statistics and how many goals he scores, it’s all about the team and for that he is so important for us so it was a brilliant performance from him.”

“The atmosphere was unbelievable.

“Carrow Road was really rocking and there was a buzz around Carrow Road. It’s a great place to be, in our living room.

“If we can keep this spirit throughout the season then we are capable of creating many surprises throughout the season – and we need to do that because we are the underdog in each and every game.

“If we have that spirit then we can reach something excellent, so a big compliment to our supporters.”
