Arsenal stars miss Newcastle United match due to ‘security incidents’
Two Arsenal stars will miss Sunday’s match but not really any reason to celebrate the fact.
Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac will not be part of Arsenal’s squad for the game at Newcastle because of ‘further security incidents’ concerning the pair.
As Arsenal released a statement on Friday, that announcement is being linked with an incident in late July the two players were targeted in a carjacking attempt by an armed gang in London.
Footage of the incident went viral as Kolasinac got out of the vehicle and didn’t back down against the criminals.
They were left out of the Lyon friendly at the Emirates following the incident but then both were involved away against Barcelona last Sunday.
The BBC say that these latest incidents are being investigated by police.
Mesut Ozil scored the winner at St James Park last season and in 2017/18 scored the only goal at the Emirates, he also scored as well in his first season with Arsenal when Newcastle lost 3-0 in North London in 2013/14.
Sad to see something like this impact on people’s lives, whether they are the ordinary man in the street or the rich and famous. Hopefully the police will be able to bring it to a successful conclusion.
An Arsenal statement read:
“Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac will not be part of the squad for our opening match against Newcastle United following further security incidents which are being investigated by the police.
“The welfare of our players and their families is always a top priority and we have taken this decision following discussion with the players and their representatives.
“We look forward to welcoming the players back to the squad as soon as possible.
“We will not be making any further comment on the matter.”
