Arsenal fans comments ahead of Newcastle United match – Interesting

Arsenal fans have had plenty to say ahead of their trip to St James Park.

The visiting supporters with some strong views on both their own team and Newcastle United.

The Gunners matching the Magpies in terms of injuries and leaving summer signings so late.

The visiting fans puzzled by Newcastle supporters pushing #boycottarsenal…

Varying views from Arsenal fans on the likely quality of the two sides today.

As the rain falls on Tyneside we are about to find out…

Arsenal fans comments via their Arsenal Mania message board:

‘Unhappy Newcastle fans are pushing a #BoycottArsenal hashtag. lol. wtf!’

‘What did we do ffs?’

‘Think we’ll win by a couple.’

‘Newcastle could potentially have a front three of Joelinton, Saint-Maxim and Almiron. That’s a decent attack tbf. Not the biggest Almiron fan but he’s very pacey.

Hope Luiz starts. He’s a good athlete and will help us squeeze up.’

‘Don’t fancy us tbh, Joelinton will bully our cbs and st James park on opening weekend will be tough. Bruce isn’t the mug he’s made out to be either, he’ll have a solid game plan. Ashley isn’t stupid and wouldn’t hire a b.m just for kicks.

Hate watching us away it’s always a struggle.

‘Steve Bruce is a Championship manager, nothing else. And Mike Ashley is famous for hiring’

‘81% (of Arsenal fans in poll) think we will win. Away from home, with so many injuries.

Seems like a lot of optimism around to me.

‘I’m not confident, expecting a loss. Would be very happy to win this.’

‘Relax its big boy Bruce.

Newcastle manager has lost a career-worst 19 games against Arsenal. His teams have beaten the Gunners just twice in 27 meetings, with Birmingham in 2005 and Sunderland in 2009.’

‘Not easy for a top 6 side to get an away game in the first match. Usually lower teams come into the competition full of hope and confidence at the start. Potential banana skin matches.

Liverpool and Sp..s were lucky with fairly easy home games, 4-1, 3-1. But City had a tough away game against West Ham. But what a response 0-5. That’s how you show you mean business, what a start.

That’s what we’ve got to do tomorrow, no messing about.’

‘Excited to have us back tomorrow, but also very worried, haha. The injuries/fitness issues are really going to test our squad! Newcastle won’t be easy at all I think, just hope a couple players will surprise and perform…

Wish we could start the season with a fully fit team for a change.’

‘I’m expecting some big and exciting things from Newcastle’s attacking players this season. They’ve got some really talented players. Hope our defence can’t find some sort of shape for this game.’

‘Carroll back in time for his annual hat-trick against us…. seriously I am more confident now Rafa’s gone. He makes it difficult to play against his teams, we’ve beaten Bruce time and time again.

Shame we’ll be short at LB when we actually have 3 proper LB’s for the first time in yonks (ever?) but surely even if Pepe won’t start and Laca isn’t fit we’ll have far too much for a troubled Toon with fans striking and all?’

‘Doesn’t matter which manager takes over Newcastle. They only know one way to play and that’s on the counter. Wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a back three.’

‘Was overly confident going into his game the day the window shut. Then found out No Lacazette, No Pepe, No Özil, No Kolasinac.’

‘Needless to say we need to be very focused at the back, no silly mistakes to gift Newcastle a goal. Don’t think they will create many opportunities on their own. They will be waiting mainly for mistakes or to just hit us on the counter the moment we commit too many men forward.’

‘I am not confident in St Maximin 1v1 vs Nacho.’

‘Last time I was that excited ahead of a new season was that long ago, I can’t even remember it.

Hopefully we start with a win vs Newcastle.’

‘St. Allen Maxim is pretty dangerous even if useless in the final third.’

‘Not been this excited about a new season for a few years. Keep seeing people say we’ll struggle with the injuries but I like the look of the team we’ll likely see today and our bench will probably have Pepe and Lacazette on it.’
