After Newcastle United refuse to pay wages wanted, Stanley N’Soki agrees to join Nice

At the end of July, Newcastle United agreed a transfer fee with PSG for Stanley N’Soki.

It ended weeks of speculation and a number of days of negotiations for the 20 year old left-sided defender.

The agreement ending a seemingly never ending search for quality left-back competition for Paul Dummett, the young PSG player able to play left wing-back as well, a position that doesn’t bring out the best in Dummett.

However, at the last minute, the French media (see below) revealed on 29 July 2019 that Newcastle United were refusing to pay the wages expected by Stanley N’Soki.

Four days later on 2 August 2019, Newcastle instead lowered their ambitions and completed a cheaper option deal of bringing in Jetro Willems on loan.

Early days but the Dutch defender hasn’t suggested so far that he is good enough for the Premier League, Newcastle fans hoping that quickly changes, especially with now Matt Ritchie ruled out for a considerable time.

Now helped by the money received from Newcastle for Allan Saint-Maximin, Nice have now agreed a transfer fee with PSG AND wages with Stanley N’Soki.

The player set to take his medical in the next 24 hours.

Whilst sizeable money was paid out by Newcastle on attacking options Joelinton and ASM, to try and compensate for losing Rondon and Perez. There didn’t appear to be anything close to ambition shown in those wing-back positions where Newcastle were desperate for quality options on both sides of the pitch. As well as loan signing Willems, around £5m was paid out for Emil Krafth, just like Willems the Swedish defender is yet to show he was what was needed.

GFFN Report – 30 August 2019:

As initially reported by Soccer Link and reaffirmed by RMC, OGC Nice have this afternoon concluded a €12.5m agreement with PSG to sign left-sided French defender Stanley N’Soki, despite late competition from Lyon.

The 20-year-old will arrive in Nice tonight or tomorrow and was convinced by Patrick Vieira to make the move.

N’Soki will sign a 4-year contract should he pass a medical.’

The Mag – 29 July 2019:

Sunday brought news that Newcastle United had agreed a transfer fee to bring Stanley N’Soki to St James Park.

The RMC report (see below) stating that the price had been agreed at 11m euros (£9.9m) and an add-on of 20% if/when Newcastle sell N’Soki on.

However, they did also add that personal terms still had to be agreed.

Monday has now brought an exclusive from the reliable GFFN who say that via their sources they have learnt that talks on personal terms have now ended but with no agreement reached.

They describe the deal as now being  at ‘breaking point’ after Newcastle United on Monday ‘repeated a series of low-ball wage offers’, leaving the 20 year old left-back and his representatives less than happy.

Stanley N’Soki and his people feeling that the enthusiasm they believed Newcastle showed in wanting to sign him, has not been reflected in how far they are prepared to go in paying the wages that were/are expected.

GFFN say that the deal is not dead just yet and indeed a deal could be confirmed as early as Wednesday BUT for that to happen Newcastle have to ‘considerably’ raise the wages on offer.
