Will Mike Ashley be giving Newcastle fans refunds after pushing Ayoze Perez merchandise this summer?

Mike Ashley continues to steer a course towards what looks to be certain Newcastle United disaster.

No new signings, no manager, pre-season starts tomorrow, off to China a week later, no attempt to keep player of the year Salomon Rondon, season ticket prices up and fans intent on protests, the list goes on.

Then Tuesday night we hear that a £30m transfer of last season’s top scorer, Ayoze Perez, has been agreed with Leicester City.

Some journalists are claiming that this is a transfer release clause figure but funny how a number of them know it now and absolutely nobody has ever mentioned it before.

One smaller gripe, in the great scheme of things, is that two weeks ago the new Newcastle United home shirt went on sale for pre-orders, the club laughingly claiming it was a tribute to the 1969 Fairs Cup winning shirt design, as well as the NUFC club shop charging more for it than any other Premier League club shop was charging for theirs.

Interestingly as well, over his Sports Direct online shop, Mike Ashley has been promoting  sales of personalised new home shirts.

The Ashley shop pushing six players…

As you can see, from the top they are in order pushing Miguel Almiron, Ayoze Perez and Jamaal Lascelles, who are then followed by Matt Ritchie, Fabian Schar and Sean Longstaff. No doubt these choices reflecting who they know/believe they will sell the most of.

So if Ayoze Perez is indeed sold, will Mike Ashley be giving out refunds to any Newcastle fans who had the misfortune to be guided by Sports Direct into getting the Spaniard’s name and number on the back of their shirts?

I just hope as well that this list of players being pushed by Mike Ashley and Sports Direct, doesn’t become a checklist for us to cross out as they are sold this summer (Martin Dubravka of course having his name on a keeper’s top rather than an outfield one…).

You have been warned.
