Why Steve Bruce will never be trusted by Newcastle United fans
The pursuit of and likely appointment of Steve Bruce, has laid bare Mike Ashley’s philosophy and exposed the character flaws of his new “coach”.
Whilst most progressive businesses strive to live by guiding principles, that recognise their various stakeholders, Ashley seems to delight in doing the opposite.
He revels in frustrating Newcastle fans; most would call it vengeful spite, including hiring unprincipled lackeys.
In Steve Bruce he is about to appoint someone the exact opposite of the honourable and talented Rafa Benitez.
“Don’t trust the person who has broken faith once.” – William Shakespeare
Aside from Bruce’s dire Premiership record, his breach of faith in previous roles at Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday, coupled with his willingness to do Ashley’s bidding, means he will never be trusted by the Newcastle fans.
No matter what happens in the transfer market or on the pitch, at the very most he can only aim to be tolerated by some.
His track record of deceit means that he is Ashley’s man.
“I do not trust words. I even question actions. But I never doubt patterns.” – Unknown
No matter how hard be tries to sweet talk the fans, we all know that anyone who walks out as he did and accepts a job when he’s regarded as a pariah by us all, is a dead man walking.
Replacing Rafa with Bruce is the ultimate indignity.
I guess all we can aim for now is just to play the long game and out-survive Mike Ashley and his minions as well as his millions.
I for one will be joining “the missing” on 11th August in order to let the watching world know how we feel.
