Today’s Newcastle United Live TV matches announcement means already 8 games affected

Friday morning brought an announcement on Newcastle United Live TV matches.

Back in June we found out that the Arsenal match was on Sunday 11 August ‘thanks’ to Sky Sports, with a 2pm kick-off.

Now another four games for Sky Sports and BT Sport have been revealed.

The period announced today, covers August and September.

This means five of Newcastle’s first seven Premier League matches moved for live TV, the first two months of the Premier league season now looking like this:

Sunday 11 Arsenal (h) 2pm (Sky Sports)

Saturday 17 Norwich (a) 3pm

Sunday 25 Tottenham (a) 4.30pm (Sky Sports)

Saturday 31 Watford (h) 3pm

Saturday 14 Liverpool (a) 12.30pm (BT Sport)

Saturday 21 Brighton (h) 5.30pm (Sky Sports)

Saturday 28 Leicester (a) 5.30pm (Sky Sports)

(If Manchester City are scheduled to play in the Champions League the following Tuesday, the Leicester match will be moved to Sunday 29 September with a 4.30p kick-off and would still be shown live on Sky Sports)

The next date to look out for is around about Tuesday 6 August, based on last year’s release dates, that is when we should find out the live TV matches for October and November announced.

There have though already been other announcements that concern another three Newcastle games.

The home match against Manchester United will definitely not take place on Saturday 5 October as scheduled, due to them playing in the Europa League the preceding Thursday. So that will be played on Sunday (6 Oct) or Monday (7 Oct) you would imagine, we should find that out for sure in early August when those October and November live TV games will be announced.

Also, back in June we discovered that two other Newcastle games will be shown live on TV before the turn of the year.

As part of the new UK rights contracts, Amazon agreed a £90million deal to start streaming top flight fixtures via their Amazon Prime service.

The three year contract starting with 2019/20 gives them the UK broadcast rights to 20 live games, spread over two rounds of fixtures.

Amazon Prime announced that they will show all December midweek fixtures in the first week of that month, these falling on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of December, plus all Premier League matches played on Boxing Day.

So it will mean Newcastle’s visit to Sheffield United will be shown live on Amazon Prime. That game at the moment showing as a 7.45pm kick-off on Tuesday 3 December.

Then on Thursday 26 December we are currently playing Man Utd at Old Trafford with a 3pm kick-off.

The Sheffield United away match will very likely be staying on that date and time but whilst Man Utd away will stay on Boxing Day regardless (unless they change their mind…), it remains to be seen whether the kick-off time will be changed and Amazon stagger the games throughout the day.

With the Premier League selling more games to UK rights broadcasters than ever before, the number of Newcastle matches chosen this season is likely to set a new record.
