Three Steve Bruce ‘Newcastle United transfer targets’ – You have to laugh
There has been a rash of Newcastle United transfer targets reported.
Little surprise when we are now only 18 days away from the transfer window closing, with zero signings announced in these first 67 days of the 2019 summer window.
Newcastle the only club in the Premier League not to make a signing, despite a decent number of players leaving, including three first team regulars – players who contributed most of the goals last season.
We all know it is crazy season when a transfer window is open but quite incredible how the media forget things so quickly that they themselves have previously reported…
The media having given so much coverage to Rafa Benitez leaving Newcastle, making clear, repeatedly, that the key reason for the Spaniard leaving was Mike Ashley refusing to let the manager have more control over buying players, in particular the owner making clear he wants a transfer policy based on bringing in young players on lower wages compared to established Premier League players, signings who would have a high potential resale value.
Despite that, these last 24 hours I have seen Newcastle said to be heavily interested in signing this trio of jokers…
A 30 year old Charlie Austin who scored only two PL goals last season.
Then 29 year old Danny Rose who must be really desperate to get involved in a certain relegation fight, when his last game of football was the Champions League final.
Or what about 30 year old Andy Carroll, only 10 PL starts and 3 goals in the past two years, not that the other six and a half years after leaving NUFC were much better.
So yes, the media are convinced that now Mike Ashley will be up for signing any number of players around 29/30+ years old on high Premier League wages….
The Star report:
‘Newcastle boss Steve Bruce eyes £15m Tottenham star as his first signing – EXCLUSIVE
Tottenham star Danny Rose is a shock target for Newcastle.
New Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has already identified the left-back position at St James’ Park as one that needs addressing urgently – and would love a player of Rose’s calibre
There are other potential problems to overcome.
Rose enjoyed a successful campaign on loan with Newcastle’s bitter enemies Sunderland in 2011-12 – and remains something of a cult figure at the Stadium of Light.
Then there is the interest of French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Bruce plans to monitor the situation closely and, if Rose is still available at the end of the month, launch a bid of around £15m.’
The 90 mins report:
‘Newcastle Plot Bid for Charlie Austin After Striker Is Transfer Listed By Southampton
Steve Bruce is looking to bring English striker Charlie Austin to Newcastle as one of his first signings since taking over the managerial role from Rafa Benitez.
Austin was told he would not travel with the team on their pre-season tour, leading to the striker launching a tirade against Hasenhüttl, according to the Sun.
This is good news for Newcastle fans though as it means Bruce may be able to bring Austin to St James’ Park at a significantly reduced price.
This will suit Bruce and the club as they look to build a new attack on a budget, with Perez and Joselu no longer in the squad.’
The Sun report:
‘Newcastle’s new boss Steve Bruce is considering a move to bring Andy Carroll back to St James’ Park this summer.
The former England forward is a free agent after an injury plagued spell at West Ham finally came to an end last month.
Now 30, he made his debut for his hometown club in 2006 but has seen his last few years ravaged by injury.
He is sidelined by another problem for the next few weeks and there is no time limit on doing a deal due as he is not attached to a club.’
