Sky Sports presenter gives reasons why Steve Bruce should get Newcastle United job – Embarrassing

Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves has been saying why he thinks Steve Bruce would be a great choice to replace Rafa Benitez.

Not surprisingly, this has gone down about as well with Newcastle fans, as it did when the Sky Sports man went out of his way to describe Dennis Wise as a ‘Legend’ and an ‘Icon’…

There are plenty of words any true Newcastle fan would use for the Mike Ashley minion (Dennis Wise, not Pete Graves…) – but legend and icon would definitely be missing.

It is clearly a precarious line to walk being a Sky Sports presenter and a Newcastle fan.

Clearly there is an agenda ran by certain unknown influential people inside Sky Sports that is pro-Mike Ashley but obviously nobody knows exactly how that impacts on what is said/covered by the various frontline Sky Sports staff.

What I do know though is that there has been zero coverage so far by Sky Sports to the joint protest statement from Newcastle fan groups sent out to all media on Tuesday, calling on fellow fans to boycott Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United.

What is for sure is that Pete Graves got this one badly wrong today and when faced with a backlash from Newcastle fans, quickly deleted it.

Pete Graves is not alone in terms of journalists putting forward that Steve Bruce would be a good appointment line. In many cases you can only guess that the journalists in question are doing so due to having a decent relationship with the useless lump.

Any rational person knows that there is no way NUFC should be going from Rafa Benitez to Steve Bruce, they 100% should be aiming for somebody with better CV/profile.

There is not one other Premier League club who would be going for Steve Bruce if they suddenly needed a new manager today.

This is what Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves had to say via Twitter (before deleting):

“‘If’ Bruce gets job, fans should know Sir Bobby recommended him numerous times for job.

“He’s also best friends with Shearer so could build bridges there?

“Fans anger should 100% NOT be aimed at Bruce (#nufc fan) that’s for sure.

“Don’t hammer me, just an alternate perspective.”

There is only one perspective/question, is Steve Bruce good enough for the Newcastle job? That answer is clearly no.

Building bridges with Alan Shearer? That is absolute nonsense whilst Mike Ashley is still there.

Alan Shearer had a great relationship with Rafa Benitez but that is all meaningless when it comes to the heart of the matter where NUFC are concerned.

As for saying Sir Bobby Robson was an advocate of Steve Bruce. The Geordie knight passed away 10 years ago and it is really clutching at straws for the Sky Sports to desperately put this validation up.

In the 10 seasons since Sir Bobby passed away, Steve Bruce has managed in the Premier League for less than half that time.

His roll call of honour in that time includes relegating Hull to the Championship, sacked by Sunderland because he was taking them into the Championship, sacked by Aston Villa after he almost took them into League One and so on.

Steve Bruce is a Newcastle fan…well I will never forget watching back the recording of our 5-0 win over Man Utd and Bruce was the guest in the studio. He was almost crying and embarrassingly claimed that the game could have had a different result if Man Utd had got a penalty at 1-0 down (which wasn’t a penalty).

Even if you believe Steve Bruce is a Newcastle fan, well so was/is John Carver….
