Salomon Rondon won’t be joining Newcastle as West Brom agree deal with Rafa Benitez – Sky Sports

Salomon Rondon was Newcastle United’s player of the season and most productive in attack.

The 29 year old Venezuelan striker having his best ever Premier League season, scoring 11 and grabbing seven assists.

Despite that, Mike Ashley refused to allow Rafa/Newcastle to make any offer to try and buy him.

Instead, Salomon Rondon will now be joining Rafa Benitez and Dalian Yifang.

On Thursday, Titan Sports said (see below) that Dalian Yifang were moving out Zimbabwean striker Nyasha Mushekwi to create space for Rondon to have a foreign signing spot.

Then on Friday (also see below) the local (to West Brom) paper the Express and Star said that the Chinese club had made a formal approach to buy the former NUFC loan striker.

Monday has now seen Sky Sports announced that a sale price has been agreed between West Brom and Dalian Yifang, presumably the £16.5m release clause.

They say talks are now being concluded on personal terms, with the signing set to be announced by Wednesday. Dalian Yifang have an away match tomorrow (Tuesday) so Wednesday would probably make sense for his unveiling as a new signing.

In the meantime, Josleu has now been sold to Alaves for a reported £2.5m and bizarrely, a number of newspapers are reporting that Newcastle will announce the signing of Joelinton, once they sort out a manager/head coach, the transfer price tag for the 22 year old  Brazilian striker somewhere between £25m and £36m according to the various reports.

The Mag – Friday 12 July 2019:

It now looks only a matter of time before Salomon Rondon is reunited with Rafa Benitez.

On Thursday, Titan Sports (see below) revealed that Dalian Yifang have agreed to move on Nyasha Mushekwi to Zhejiang Greentown, a club in the second tier of Chinese football.

The Zimbabwean striker scored 15 goals in 20 league matches for Dalian Yifang last season after moving from Swedish club Djurgarden and has three goals in 11 appearances this time.

The reason for the departure being to free up a spot for a different overseas player to come in, namely Salomon Rondon.

This month is the mid-season transfer window in China and now the Express and Star (local West Midlands newspaper) have revealed that Dalian Yifang have now made a formal approach for the Venezuelan international.

They report that the Chinese Super League club have put in an offer that is higher than anything a Premier League club has offered so far, the only doubt being whether they have straight away offered the full £16.5m release clause figure, or whether their opening bid is attempting to get a few quid knocked off that amount.

As for Newcastle United, they earlier today confirmed that Joselu is still at the club and flying out tomorrow to China with the rest of the NUFC squad.

As it stands, Newcastle’s attacking options are Yoshinori Muto, Dwight Gayle and Joselu.

The Mag – Thursday 11 July 2019:

Salomon Rondon and Venezuela eventually exited the Copa America on 28 June.

A good display but not enough to beat Argentina, losing 2-0 at the quarter-final stage.

Despite everything else that has gone on with Newcastle United, at least a tiny piece of hope remained whilst Salomon Rondon didn’t sign elsewhere, that the striker just maybe could return.

However, that is now reportedly set to change.

Like Miguel Almiron who was knocked out of the Copa America at the same stage, Rondon was always going to have an extra couple of weeks off before joining his new club.

Thursday morning sees Titan Sports, who cover the Chinese Super League, reporting that Dalian Yifang are making preparations for the imminent arrival of Salomon Rondon.

Widespread reports had previously brought news that Rafa Benitez was going to take the Venezuelan striker to China for a reunion and now they are paving the way.

Dalian Yifang currently have a full complement of overseas signings but Titan Sports say that they are now moving on Nyasha Mushekwi.

The Zimbabwean striker scored 15 goals in 20 league matches for Dalian Yifang last season after moving from Swedish club Djurgarden and has three goals in 11 appearances this time.

However, he is now set to sign for Zhejiang Greentown who play in the Chinese second tier, that club having moved Tana on to Spanish club Las Palmas to free up space themselves for another foreign signing

Salomon Rondon scored 11 goals and got seven assists last season for Newcastle but the NUFC player of the year looks China bound.

A total shambles at Newcastle United with no manager, no signings, key players lost and only four weeks until the transfer window closes and the season starts.

The refusal to allow Rafa Benitez to buy players such as Salomon Rondon, at the very heart of the lack of ambition that saw Mike Ashley force the manager out of the club.

This is currently the mid-season transfer window in China and after having already played 16 of their 30 league matches, Dalian Yifang are expected to complete the signing in the very near future so that Salomon Rondon can be involved in as many of the remaining matches as possible, before the season ends in early December.
