Newcastle United squad to be strong enough for Premier League with only this £13m net spend?

Just looking into the current Newcastle United squad and working out what we need.

What possible transfer action we could see in and out at St James Park.

Today is the 64th day of the 2019 summer window, with only the 21 more days to follow before it closes.

Lets first look at the current squad we have

Goalkeepers

Karl Darlow, Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot, Freddie Woodman

I think we have two more than is needed in this department and if Darlow and Elliot were sold, I can see £5m/£6m being made here, with Woodman getting more of a chance and signing him to a new contract.

Defenders

Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Federico Fernandez, Jamaal Lascelles, Achraf Lazaar, Florian Lejeune, Fabian Schar, Jamie Sterry, Javier Manquillo, Deandre Yedlin

If we sold Lazaar and Clark here, there could be another £5m/£6m and also gives Sterry a chance to step up.

It does also mean we would need another left-back and I think even though we need a better right-back, Yedlin will stay first choice and Manquillo is a cheap back-up option.

Midfielders

Rolando Aarons, Christian Atsu, Jack Colback, Isaac Hayden, Ki Sung-yeung, Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie, Henri Saivet, Jonjo Shelvey

I think an area we need to improve is in the wingers that we have.

I can see Ritchie staying, with Murphy and Atsu as back-up, but Aarons has to go as his record is not good enough.

Colback also has to go but I can actually see Saivet staying if the former Sunderland midfielder went. So Aarons and Colback could bring in another £5m.

Forwards

Miguel Almiron, Dwight Gayle, Yoshinori Muto

This is the weakest area of the squad with the departures of Rondon, Ayoze and Joselu.

I can actually see Gayle being sold and if so, could be another £20m into the kitty.

So rounding up, out could go:

Darlow, Elliot, Clark, Lazaar, Aarons, Colback, Gayle

This could raise around £40m into the transfer kitty along with the £30m from Ayoze, so a total of £70m.

Also there could be departures for Hayden and Saivet – raising another £10m/£15m on top of this.

So now onto incomings.

It’s looking more and more likely that Joelinton is imminent at around £35m.

Then the areas I think we need to strengthen on top if this are back up left-back, left wing, right wing and centre-forward,

Names being mentioned in the press and for a while now, include Charlie Austin for a cut price £5m. If we sold Gayle for £20m and have Austin as a back-up for Joelinton, I would say that is a good option and puts £15 million towards other areas.

There’s also players like Jarrod Bowen from Hull City with £14m/£15m quoted and Saint Maximin for £25m.

At left-back, Laxat from AC Milan or Kieran Gibbs, even Jetro Williams, in the past all reported around the £8m mark.

If these five signings were made, that estimated total spend is £83m, compared to that figure of around £70m that could be raised by sales, as outlined above. Giving us a net spend of only around £13m.

Another I can see is Hayden out and McCarthy in from Everton for around the same sort of money,

So the Newcastle United squad we could have with that minimal (£13m) net investment could be:

Dubravka, Woodman

Yedlin, Manquillo, Dummet, LAXAT/WILLIAMS/GIBBS, Lascelles, Schar, Fernandez, Lejune, Sterry

Atsu, Ki, Shelvey, Hayden, Longstaff, Murphy, Ritchie, Saviet, BOWEN, SAINT MAXIMIN

Almiron, Muto, AUSTIN, JOELINTON

Strong enough for the Premier League with only a £13m net spend???
