Newcastle United ‘sources’ claim over £100m will be spent on new signings this Summer – Report

The Newcastle United squad reassemble today.

Those that are left anyway, less some who have been on international duty this Summer.

No manager or senior coaching staff of course, with newly appointed reserve team coach Neil Redfearn and Academy boss Ben Dawson to instead oversee new season preparations.

Today also represents a half century of days with not a single signing so far, we have reached day 50 of this summer transfer window and only another 35 days to go afterwards.

Nevertheless, a new report on Thursday morning is adamant that over £100m will still be spent on new signings by Newcastle United in these next five weeks.

The Star say that Newcastle United insider ‘sources’ insist that this figure will be available, made up of a basic £60m budget, plus the £30m set to be paid for Ayoze Perez, then other players to be sold with Isaac Hayden alone set to bring in £15m+.

They also add that whilst Mike Ashley (allegedly) desperately wants to keep Sean Longstaff, ‘if they receive an offer which is too good to turn down…they will reluctantly sanction the deal’ and he will leave as well.

I’m guessing  that like me, you will be finding the above a ‘little’ difficult to believe.

No doubt thinking one of two scenarios is true.

Either this is pure invention by the journalist/newspaper, or pure invention pushed out by Mike Ashley’s people to the newspaper.

As for player sales being  added to any supposed basic transfer kitty, it will be a case of seeing is believing that the full sale price from any departing player is added, if indeed anything is.

I would say that the only bit I 100% believe is that more players will be sold this summer and you only have to wonder what the likes of brilliant Rafa Benitez signings such as Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka will be thinking, as they arrive back at this car crash of a club.
