Newcastle United have confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that midfielder Dan Barlaser has agreed a new deal.

The 22 year old Geordie spent last season in League One on loan at Accrington Stanley, playing in 39 of their 46 league matches.

Newcastle don’t say how long the new contract is for.

However, at the same time they have confirmed that he will once again head out on loan again.

This time it is Rotherham United, the South Yorkshire club relegated from the Championship last season.

So Dan Barlaser will be back in League One and playing against Sunderland and former club Accrington Stanley, amongst others.

Newcastle United official announcement:

Newcastle United midfielder Dan Barlaser has signed a new deal at St. James’ Park, and will spend the 2019/20 season on loan at League One side Rotherham United.

The 22-year-old, who spent last term on loan at Accrington Stanley, has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Magpies – and linked up with the Millers for the coming campaign.

Gateshead-born Barlaser’s three Newcastle appearances came in FA Cup ties against Birmingham City and Oxford United in January 2017 and a Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest in August 2017, before he made four outings on loan at Crewe Alexandra during the second half of 2017/18.

He impressed during his spell with Accy last season, making 39 appearances and netting three goals – including his first Football League strike, which came against Southend United at the Wham Stadium.

Barlaser becomes Rotherham manager Paul Warne’s sixth addition of the summer, and will remain at the New York Stadium until the close of the League One season in May 2020.’
