Newcastle fans furious after Mike Ashley message to Jonas Gutierrez
Jonas Gutierrez wasn’t the best player to ever turn out for Newcastle United.
However, he was a very good player and just as importantly somebody who is a great person, someone who really connected with Newcastle fans.
A real 100% character both on and off the pitch, he still regularly expresses his love for Newcastle United and the fans.
Against some pretty stiff competition though, Jonas Gutierrez was at the centre of the most shameful incident in Mike Ashley’s 12 years (and counting) in charge of Newcastle United.
Ashley found guilty at a tribunal of discriminating against Jonas when he had cancer,, absolutely shameful.
Despite the way he was treated, Jonas Gutierrez put that to one side and came back to score and lead the team to victory in the final game of the season, beating West Ham 2-0 and the result meant finally the club were safe from relegation (for that season anyway..).
Astonishingly, Mike Ashley wasn’t finished there.
After seven years of great service, Jonas Gutierrez found out he wasn’t get a new contract when Mike Ashley ordered Jon Carver to ring Ryan Taylor and tell him (Taylor) he wasn’t wanted anymore and then he got him to pass the phone to Jonas Gutierrez (he and Taylor were on a course together) for Carver to tell the Argentine star the same.
Jonas Gutierrez has turned 36 today and Mike Ashley has had his social media people send him a message…
‘Happy Birthday Jonas Gutierrez. Once a Geordie, always a Geordie,’ Ending the message with love (in the form of a heart) from Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United.
Talk about nerve for anything, not surprisingly Newcastle fans (see below) haven’t taken it too well!
Happy birthday, @elgalgojonas! ???

‘Sacked because he had cancer but yeah happy birthday…… pathetic.’
‘Wow!?! That’s bit hypocritical from you, isn’t it? Kick a man when he’s down by sacking him and now you want to wish him happy birthday?’
‘Didn’t you try and sack him because he had cancer? Short memories.’
The Geordie Boot Boy:
‘The sheer bare-faced cheek of this.
Forced a man with CANCER out of the Club…sacked him via phone call.
Managerless. No Signings.
Treating fans with contempt.
Yet simply carrying on like we’re all stupid and have no knowledge of what’s gone on and STILL going on.’
‘Oh the irony… What d.ckheads running this glorious football club.’
‘Apart from when you take ill and get sacked via text.’
‘Yet as per usual, the club treated him like sh..’
‘Once a FCB always a FCB.’
‘Always a Geordie, and yet fat Mike couldn’t even treat him as a human.’
‘Then was shafted by the club! Always a legend in the fans eyes. Pity the club didn’t feel that way at the time.’
‘The actual cheek of this club!! You sacked the poor chap for having cancer!!’
‘Quite possibly the most hypocritical post ever put on the Twitter platform.’
‘After the way he was treated by the club you have the nerve to post this? No shame.’
‘Didn’t Mike Ashley tell him he was surplus to requirements despite him having cancer? He was treated appallingly. You don’t treat your own like this.’
