Joselu makes short personal statement to Newcastle United fans as sale price to Alaves revealed

Joselu was named in the 27 man squad to go to China for the Premier League Asia Trophy.

However, photos on Sunday showed 26 of the named squad in China but Josleu replaced by Elias Sorensen.

This news followed today with an official statement by the club revealing they have sold him to Alaves.

Whilst they are going with usual undisclosed amount, the Chronicle have stated that the transfer fee is £2.5m.

That makes the transfer profit £32.5m so far this Summer for Mike Ashley.

Josleu will be presented to the Alaves fans on Tuesday and has now said his goodbyes to Newcastle supporters.

The departing striker saying via Twitter:

“Dear Newcastle United Fans, the time has come to say goodbye.

“I just can say THANK YOU.

“Incredible Stadium, city, Club and people.

“Wish you all the best for the upcoming season.”

The Mag earlier this afternoon (Monday 15 July 2019):

Joselu has been sold.

An official club statement announcing the news on Monday afternoon.

Joselu moves on to La Liga, swapping Newcastle United for Alaves.

It means that now Newcastle United’s current squad contains players who scored only 16 of the 42 Premier League goals last season for NUFC.

Perez (12), Rondon (11), Joselu (2) and Own Goal (1) getting the other 26.

Of the players stiff left at St James Park, the top scorers in the top tier were Fabian Schar (4), Ciaran Clark (30 and Matt Ritchie (2), nobody else got more than one.

This now means Mike Ashley has a Summer transfer window of £30m plus whatever he got for Joselu.

Newcastle United official statement:

‘Joselu has completed a permanent move to La Liga side Deportivo Alavés.

The 29-year-old forward has joined the Spanish side for an undisclosed fee, bringing his two-year stay at St. James’ Park to an end.

Joselu signed for the Magpies from Stoke City in August 2017, and went on to score in his home league debut for the club – a 3-0 win over West Ham United later that month.

In total, the former Real Madrid forward – who had spells with Celta Vigo, Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hannover and Deportivo La Coruña before arriving on Tyneside from the Potters – made 52 appearances for United, scoring seven times in all competitions.

The club wishes Joselu well for the future.’
