It’s official, very bottom of the barrel reached now – Charles N’Zogbia says Steve Bruce a great choice

I remember Charles N’Zogbia.

He was Sir Bobby Robson’s very last signing before being sacked by Hall and Shepherd.

Arriving as an 18 year old and £250,000 paid to Le Havre in September 2004.

The records/stats say that he stayed four and a half years, playing 118 times for NUFC and scoring nine goals.

What the bare stats/facts don’t say, is that he was a joke.

He was almost a prototype Moussa Sissoko, he had some ability but nowhere near what he thought it to be, and very quickly once he stated playing, Charles N’Zogbia was making it clear that he had higher ambitions than Newcastle United.

He kept talking about possibly having to move on to fulfil his ambitions, he clearly just like Moussa Sissoko, fantasised that it would be Real Madrid knocking on his door.

He joined Wigan in January 2009.

JFK sold him to Steve Bruce but Charles N’Zogbia only started 13 Premier League games under Bruce, before the manager jumped ship to Sunderland.

Nevertheless, yesterday (Friday 19 July) Charles N’Zogbia was called as the very latest character witness for Steve Bruce.

Media friendly to the club desperate to try and help them prop up this latest summer disaster of appointing Head Coach Steve Bruce.

Charles N’Zogbia declaring: ‘Steve Bruce was one of the best managers I have worked with…’, yes all three months and 13 games of it.

It was a pretty bad day all round really for Steve Bruce in terms of character witnesses being called in support of him, Friday had already seen the Chronicle pushing Achraf Lazaar quotes, whilst the club’s own TV channel had Rolando Aarons saying how great he is.

When Rafa Benitez has made it absolutely clear that you will never play for the club ever again, no wonder certain people are feeling positive with the Spaniard’s departure and this particular Head Coach appointed.

Surely though now they have scraped the very bottom of the barrel. Charles N’Zogbia has about as much credibility with Newcastle fans as…well I will leave you to pick the names but basically just the one step up from having Dennis Wise backing his mate/boss’ latest appointment.

The trouble is as well, that the Mike Ashley friendly media such as Sky Sports and The Chronicle clearly haven’t heard of the law of diminishing returns, which basically means in this case that once you go past a certain post (the level of person you are getting to say how great Steve Bruce’s appointment is), it is actually having the opposite effect to what you intend.

So when Ashley employee Shola Ameobi, John Carver, Simon Jordan, Charles N’Zogbia, Kevin Nolan, Dennis Wise, Alan Pardew or whoever, are next used by the media to say Bruce is the right choice it will just make the vast majority of Newcastle fans even more convinced that he was/is not.

Saying that, I will be intrigued that now they have scraped that very very deep barrel and found Charles N’Zogbia, who will they come up with who is even less convincing?

Achraf Lazaar speaking to the Chronicle:

“I’m back here and I’m going to give everything and work hard every single day and we will see what will happen.”

“Before I went to Sheffield Wednesday I talked about him (Steve Bruce) with my teammates in Morocco and some teammates in England. They talked so good about him.

“He’s helped a lot of people. He’s a great manager.

“I’m so happy to see him again and work with him, because I think he was one of the people who helped me a lot.

“I’m happy he signed for the club. I can’t wait to see him and to work again with him.

“We get prepared for the Premier League.”

Rolando Aarons talking to NUFC TV:

“It is nice to get a manager in because now we know exactly how we are going to be playing and what we need to do now.

“It has been a boost for everyone and everyone has gone up a level so it has been good.

“He is quite positive and I am attacking-minded.

“He is very encouraging and he is a good man-manager. He is a top manager. He has been about, he knows what needs to be done and I think he will be good for us. It is massive for me.

“To put on the shirt is always a special feeling and hopefully I will do it a lot more next season.

“I have had a few injuries and I wasn’t selected for the previous manager. I have always wanted to play for Newcastle and everybody here knows how much the club means to me and others that have come through here.

“It is a massive opportunity for those of us who haven’t been playing.

“It is not too much about winning right now (after losing 4-0 to Wolves), it is about getting fit for the start of the season.

“It is more about implementing the style of play the gaffer wants us to play.”

Charles N’Zogbia speaking to the Chronicle:

“Steve Bruce was one of the best managers I have worked with.

“He has the passion and man management skills of Sir Bobby Robson for me.

“He’s a true manager and will always do the best for the club to succeed.

“He’s been selected to manage Newcastle now and that’s a big achievement.

“He will make sure for the fans that the club will do anything in their power to make Newcastle shine again – how it used to be.

“I am 100% behind and wish him all the best.”
