I’ll be supporting every team that takes on Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United
I’m no glory supporter, my first game was a 2-0 Newcastle United win in 1990 v Plymouth Argyle, with Micky Quinn and Benny Kristensen scoring the goals. I was aged 10 then.
That season was terrible, Jim Smith stepping down mid-season for Ossie Ardillies to take over.
The following season was even worse, Ossie Ardilies almost getting us relegated before King Kev taking over and saving us from relegation to the old third division with six points in the last two games against Portsmouth and Leicester.
After that we had the good times, King Kev’s promotion to the Premier League, the entertainers, almost title winners, Dalglish and Gullit’s FA cup finalists, Champions League, Bobby’s entertainers and seeing us again competing again in the Champions League against Juventus, Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Then we had more bad times with Graeme Souness destroying all Bobby’s good work and Glenn Roeder confirming we were now a mi-table premier league team.
How I would love to go back to those Glenn Roeder days, knowing fine well you would be competing for the number 7-14 position in the Premier League seemed depressing at the time, but no more depressing than the last 12 years at Newcastle.
Mike Ashley’s reign at Newcastle United is unlike anything else in professional sport.
I have never known another professional sporting outfit who deliberately try to be mediocre.
I’m not gonna go into everything Ashely has done as:-
A. It will take too long to type
B. Everyone knows what he’s done
C. It depresses me confirming how backward this club has gone under him
I want Newcastle United to get relegated this season.
Let’s be honest, there’s no takeover happening, there probably was never any takeover happening this season, last season or any season. If he wanted out, like really wanted out, then he would have sold by now.
The fans won’t boycott. A couple of signings, a couple of wins, a few MA interviews, it doesn’t matter how bad the club is run the fans will always come back. I wish they’d stay away but they never will. After two months of planned boycotts for the Arsenal game I will be absolutely shocked if less than 40,000 turn up.
In my opinion, the only thing that gets rid of Mike Ashley is relegation, but not relegation like the last two times. Relegation where we stay in the Championship for a few years. There’s no TV money, the crowds would be down to 30-40k. He would have no choice but to sell. Then we would finally get our club back.
So boycott if you want, protest if you want. I will be doing both whilst supporting every team that takes on Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United.
