Elias Sorensen agent says decision will be made based on whether any more signings are made
An eventful season for Elias Sorensen, with the 19 year old scoring goals for fun with the second string.
However, then going out on loan to Blackpool in the second half of the season and getting only 31 minutes in League One.
With the promising striker not even making the bench most of the time, Rafa Benitez brought Elias Sorensen back early from the loan and he once again finished the season strongly with the NUFC under 23s.
Interesting decisions to be made on the striker’s future.
When the squad was named for China, a handful of under 23 players were included but not the Dane. However, Joselu was sold and Elias Sorensen ended up on the plane.
Newcastle were hammered 4-0 by Wolves but coming on as a sub for the final 27 minutes, the 19 year old was on the few that impressed.
Starting the win over West Ham, Sorensen should have scored early on when stretching for a cross with the goal gaping but despite that, once again did ok in a first half when NUFC played decent football, the striker one of a number of players subbed off at half-time.
Casper Gronn is his agent and he has been talking about the striker’s situation, Elias Sorensen turns 20 in September and hopes have risen after this first team squad involvement.
Gronn says ‘The dream of [playing in] the Premier League has not been closer’ for Sorensen and that their preferred plan is that the forward will become part of the first team squad this season and get his chance in the Premier League.
The agent says though that there is a lot of loan interest as well and if Newcastle buy ‘two or three more attackers’ before the window closes, then it is likely another loan will happen.
However, I think we can say for sure that Blackpool won’t be a club under consideration.
Interesting to see at what level he does end up, if Elias Sorensen does go out in loan.
Casper Gronn talking to BT.DK:
“England is sometimes a bit special when you go through as a youth player.
“It often takes a little longer than we as Danes are used to but now it looks like he is in the first team [squad], then he has to seize the opportunity when it comes.
“The dream of [playing in] the Premier League has never been closer.
“Immediately, the [ideal] plan is that Elias Sorensen will play the first team now and get the opportunity there.
“I’ve been talking to the club as late as Tuesday and doing it almost daily, so we can make sure he gets the best opportunity to continue his development.
“If you can become a Premier League striker in the club you joined at 16 year old, then it is a dream scenario…
“But if they go out and buy two or three attackers, then we should probably look at the possibility of a loan, where there is also great interest.
“When you are in a club where there have been issues in relation to both manager and ownership, then that’s where you have to keep your cool and Elias is really good at.
“He is very happy to be at the club.
“The new manager is looking forward to watching him and the chances of realising his dream of playing in the Premier League with Newcastle are within reach.”
