Darren Huckerby sees only misery ahead at Newcastle “Joelinton is Ashley’s futile attempt…”

Darren Huckerby says that whilst Mike Ashley remains at Newcastle United, there is zero chance of any unity at the club.

The former Newcastle striker can’t believe that the ‘coup’ that was having Rafa Benitez at St James Park, has been wasted by the NUFC owner.

After starving Rafa of any net spend over the course of three years, Huckerby says ‘Newcastle’s purchase of Joelinton is Ashley’s futile attempt to win back fans.’

However, even with spending allegedly £40m on the Brazilian, it still means only a £7m net spend this summer with only nine days until transfer window deadline.

As well as all the other malevolent and neglectful ways Mike Ashley has ran the club, his refusal to allow investment on any signs of promise sticks out a mile.

Just as when there was zero net spend after finishing fifth in 2011/12, Huckerby states: ‘You wonder why this money wasn’t spent three years ago when they had Rafa and things were on the up.’

Summing the whole situation up after these past 12 years, Darren Huckerby is on the money when saying: “The fans have had enough of Mike Ashley, it’s that simple.”

Darren Huckerby, speaking exclusively to 888sport:

“Rafa is renowned as one of the great managers at the top level and won all kinds of trophies so for Newcastle to have him was a bit of a coup.

“But under Ashley they haven’t spent much money over the past ten years and now that Rafa has gone Steve Bruce might be an experienced manager but he is clearly the second choice.

“It’s going to be hard getting everyone behind the club again while Mike Ashley is still there.

“The Newcastle fans just want something to believe in.

“They might win a few games and things might look rosy but after a couple of defeats all attention will be on the owner again.

“It’s difficult times and I don’t know how they’re going to push through this, not with Ashley still in charge.

“I don’t know how they’re going to turn things around.

“Newcastle’s purchase of Joelinton is Ashley’s futile attempt to win back fans.

“You wonder why this money wasn’t spent three years ago when they had Rafa and things were on the up.

“If you want to give one of the best managers in the Premier League something to work with then you do it three years ago.

“It seems like they’re doing it now to get the fans back onside; to keep them happy.

“The fans have had enough of Mike Ashley, it’s that simple.”
